Flies out, 18t sprocket, stock exhaust, PC3
Just thought I'd comment on the bike now that I have my 18t sprocket on the bike with the flies out and PC3 with European model map from powercommander.com.
WOW, much better than stock setup. I tried the bike some with stock gearing and flies out. I was doing power wheelies around 3300-3500 rpm with stock gearing. With the 18t I can still wheelie around 4000 rpm. I can still launch from a stop very easily, MUCH more easily than with stock exhaust. I'm probably 240 lbs suited up and I can still power wheelie while I'm laying over the gas tank, though I have to get the rpm's up higher for that, 6000-7000 I'd guess, not really sure. Speedo is almost dead on now, about 2% off still.
I will say the bike is not nearly as hard to handle as I thought with the flies out. Even with stock gearing the power was VERY controllable. I've heard people say flies out will hurt their ability to come out of a hard turn under control but I don't think that is the case at all. I can't really say that the 18t helps driveability much because there is really no driveability issue in the first place IMO. I do like that it makes the much more accurate and makes 1st gear a bit taller.
Oh ya, I did notice that pulling the flies makes the MPG show high. I guess the computer that figures MPG doesn't compensate for all that extra fuel being pumped into the engine at low RPM. On the highway it reads 3-4 MPG higher than what you get from the odometer and the gas pump reading. The gearing didn't affect the MPG READING. No decision on how it affects actual yet. I guess it depends more on how the 18t affects your riding style though.

Got my map from powercommander.com. European model map. Seems to work fine. Got the Gen3 on now, very impressive, can wheelie in 2nd now with some effort.

Where does that 18t put your rpm's at 60mph or 80mph? Just curious as to how much it might help mpg.
I'm leaning toward these mods too, thanks for doing it first! I have no interest in a 16t front, but I like the idea of the 18t. Combine that with flies out and maybe a PC, and that might just do the trick for me too.

The 18t front should get the speedo within 2-3 MPH of actual at 60 MPH, which is closer than stock. Should also increase fuel mileage by a good 10% I'd think (if you also pull the flies)...and considering the extra load the sprocket puts on the engine, that's pretty good.

That's kinda where I was thinking fba. I'd like a little better mileage and drop my crusing rpm's with the 18t, it seems like I'd get most of the low-end power back (and probably more) by removing the flies. I've already got a speedo healer, so I'm not too concerned about speedo error.
Like others have said, I don't want to scare myself *more* than I have in the past when accelerating on wet roads, etc, and I think the 18t will help keep the power application within my own comfort level.

I fitted the 18 tooth sprocket last summer for a top speed event and it's so good for everyday riding I've left it on. The other option I was considering is 17/40, just a tad lower.

Gen 3 works great with my Corbin bags, but I don't think that version has been released yet. I'll do a little write up with some pics soon. I had to send one of my bags off to Brock/Hindle for fitting. They are doing a production version for the Corbin bags.

I think the speedo is closer than 2-3 mph at 60mph. I figured mine at about 8% error stock. The sprocket corrects it 5.6%, so I'd put it more like 1.44mph at 60mph, though this could vary some, so maybe as much as 2.5mph for some people. Maybe I'm nit picking.
I ran the 18t with stock exhaust and flies out, and it's MUCH better than stock. You'll get the power back from the 18t and a LOT more. I can lauch hard at 3,000rpm instead of 9,000rpm, even with the 18t.
I'm not sure I'm getting 10% mpg improvement. My INDICATED mpg was huge at first but I think the mpg calculations in the computer don't compensate for the extra fuel used for the no flies map. ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ON THAT? My actual mpg didn't seem to change much but I didn't do any really controlled testing. I wouldn't expect more than 2mpg difference though. Your cruising rpm may appear to stay the same too, since you'll be correcting the speedo. I think my cruising rpm went from 4,750 to 4,500.
