Performance Bikes Cannonball Run on 14
The dec issue of Performance bikes magazine is worth a buy if you love the 14. They took a Zx-14 armed with a Ti-force system, flies out, mapped and a few other goodies (radar and laser jammer...that apparently works) on the cannonball run from london to munich (and pretty much beat the shit out of this bike...though it didn't seem to care) . Awesome read as the 14 goes against police, other morons on the road and the amazing Team Bomber of finland consisting of a GSXR 1k, Zx-10, CBR 1k and a blueprinted Duc 996. According to the editor they didn't corner their bikes too well so the 14 was able to go toe to toe with them and then some in the curves.
A few key notes: The 14 they used was dropped TWICE. Once before the run and during. First was just a drop on the curb marking up the lower bellypan. Easy fix. Second was a lowside off the road and into the grass. Cracked fairings aside, there was no serious damage. No leaks, no footpegs or levers busted. Bike still ran hard.
However there was a issue at the Hockenhiem GP circut. Stock brakes never faded with the BT tires but when they switched the Stock rubber for Metzler Racetecs , after one session of track running with repeated 190mph - 25mph braking they felt mushy. Front tire wouldn't budge when time came for the 2nd session. Reason why because the discs warped to the point that the edges were jammed into the calipers. Local kawi dealer helped them out through warrenty but kawi did remind them theres a reason for the approved tires they list...so far the BT-014 being the only set on the list.
They got a website and forum now. Theres a few putting down the Cannonball article but otherwise it's a Pretty cool place.

I read that in PB when it first came out. You have to be comfortable with tales of outrunning the police and avoiding roadblocks etc. Personally not my style. However, we're all different so good luck to them. I think it was Dale Lomas, the rider and author of that article, who was asking about de-restriction on this forum a while back. It's quite an interesting account of how the 14 measures up against other motorcycles.

Does the article mention which laser jammer they used?

Said it was the Laser pro park. had it located at the top part of the Ram air intake. Even mentioned he was invited by a local cop to test it and i quote "The officer arrived smiling and left frowning. Not only did his gun not see the ZZR, but it didn't even display a jamming error".

Yes. Tiny unit (the terminal in the middle of the 3 pics on the main page) that fit right at the top of the ram air scoop in the fairing. One of the close up pics that pointed it out I could finally see it (didn't notice it beforehand in previous photo's) but otherwise it's a bit hard to spot.

I always suspected the brakes wouldn't perform/last as well with high quality stickier tires. I haven't noticed a prob with my PP's, but then again of course I don't repeatly 190-25 MPH brake.
On a side note, I bet my big fat 14 beast's brakes will perform/last even better with some sport-touring harder compound tires.
