Worlds fastest motorcycle

Sam wheelers EZ Hook single engine Kawi power motorcycle runs 355.303 .He was unable to make a back up run for the record because of a blown front tire....But his 355.303 run was the fastest ever made by a motorcycle ...

Smokin' I past through Sacramento on the way to Bonneville. Come join me next Sep and you'll see what the excitement is all about. It's very friendly and you'll have a great time. No timing lights but on the other hand no trees, vehicles or police to run into. You just go fast!!!!!!!!!!! In fact, all of you come next year.

I've often not considered that a motorcycle either but it does have two wheels and can tip over so I guess it is. no matter what you call it, it hauls the mail.

And the winner is:

BUB speed record holder - 350.8MPH - and Denis Manning

BUB cockpit

BUB motor

I spent a while talking to the engineer.

Oh yeah.........

3000cc - V4 that they built from an idea to reality. Only 5psi boost on the run (only about enough to compensate for track elevation) and it made 500HP..........ONLY 500. The reason it went so damn fast........... it has a .08cd - smooth!

When he told me those numbers I said "You were playing - it will go much faster".....he smiled......

So basically if they used a turbo Busa motor making 500-550hp, they would've saved a lot of money?? LOL

But then it would suck :-)

That V4 is probably better for the job - wait til they crank it up..........

The Ack Attack (I think) used TWO Busa motors. The BUB used a custom 3000cc turbo V4... The EZ Hook used one turbo ZX11 engine.

This is probably a stupid question, but is it more about torque than horsepower for top speed??? I mean, these guys all had around 500 to 600 horsepower, which you can get from a single turbo motor, but what about the torque?? I know the V series engines make more torque, just wondering if that's what made the difference.

Torque will get you to top speed is a shorter distance (quicker) but the ultimate speed is based on HP - torque over time as it were.

Then why did Dennis spend all that money and time developing his V4 turbo??? He got the motocycle designation because he built the motor, and it had only ever been installed in a motorcycle; his streamliner.

Doesn't make more sense to install a couple of cheaper busa/turbo motors in the same space???

Didn't he get the motorcycle designation because it runs on TWO wheels? Are a couple of Busa motors the best engineering for horsepower in the world? I think NOT! He probably built it in a V for purposes of being compact. Properly designed, layout (inline, "V" or "pancake") doesn't make more HP or torque. An inline motor of 3 liters would be wide and contribute to a necessarily larger frontal area which would require more horsepower to push. Making 500 hp with only 5 lb. of boost out of 180 CID is a VERY good start. The relative simplicity of gearing a single engine as opposed to two smaller engines was undoubtedly on his mind as well.

I'd look into a pancake motor with a 180 degree crank . . . That said, a 90 degree V should allow the gearbox to be mounted closer to the engine centerline and allow for a smaller common induction system with less bends in the intake tract.
