It's always in the offroad mags. Great place to four wheel. But I got tired of being the passenger. So he had two choices... Build me a 4x4 or buy me a bike. So I got my 2005 anniversary edition Vmax in Jan 05. Now I'm NEVER the passenger, and I love it!

I liked the power of the Vmax with it's Boost system. Very cool. But I just wasn't happy with the look. More of a guys muscle bike cruiser look. But when I saw the 14 for the first time I knew that I had to have one!

Fastestbusa, Is the Pilot Sport that you mentioned the same as the sport HPX? Michelin seems to have several types of the Pilot tires.

Yes it is the HPX, a super sport tire. It's the only one available in a 200 sizing for now. Wears faster than the Pilot Powers, but still longer life than the BT014's and very sticky too. BTW, the PP 2CT's are not yet available in the 200 sizing, doubt you will see them for a long time. It is a far better choice than the Marathon 880's as they are not designed for Sport bikes and will slide all over the place. I had Pirelli Diablo Strada's on mine for a day and and had to take them off because of that -- and they are much stickier tires than the 880's. IMO, as others here have indicated, the only lifeline you have on these bikes are the tires. Sticky is more important than looks and life. The ZX14 has way too much TQ to begin with and putting touring tires on them seriously increases your chance of a down. One quick throttle twist and you're done. I almost lost mine with the BT014's within the 1st 500 KM's...and I wrote about it here back in April.

I had the Pilot Sports on my 10R for 2-3 rounds until I changed to the Power's; the Sports are a very decent tire and although not as sticky as the PP's, still an excellent choice. I look at it like this -- every chance I have of keeping me and the bike upright, is worth the investment. You will get what you want with a pair of Sport HPX 200's, both width and good traction, though I still prefer the 190's for cornering, but you will be much safer with those over the 880's. 880's on that bike are like riding on shiny rocks.

Suprised to hear about the Diablo Strada's not being any good. I just read a review on them and the writer seemed impressed. I was looking forward to something that would last a bit longer. Guess I'll look at the HPX and the Pilots. I have about 3200 miles on the OEM tires and the back is getting a bit flat, I might have 1.5mm left in the center. I'll probably ride em until I get some wear on the sides though, that's where you really need the rain grooves.

So FBA, what's the highest mileage tire you'd recommend for the ZX-14? Michelin PP Medium-Soft?

PILOT POWERS RULE- of course only if your into performance.... keyword performance.

For the blingers, who knows. For the people wanting a trillion miles from a tire or those wanting a low cost tire solution, run from these fast!

Stevewfl is right...they Rule! I only saw one compound in the PP's as I don't think the 2CT's are readily available in the US yet. Have a set on the 14 going on 5000 miles now, good for another 1500 easy. Have them on the 10R at 6K with no real wear either and I ride hard with a lot of hard start throttle twisting and no chicken strips. These are the tires for your 14! For anyone who wants, my buddy has a set of Stradas never mounted (for the 14). He wants $190.00 for both brand new. He rides a Busa and we bought the free front tire deal...but when I sold mine after one day...he didn't bother mounting them and bought more PP's instead. You will love the PP's; I don't know anyone who had them and didn't.

Stevewfl sounds like he's not getting a lot of mileage out of his, or am I misunderstanding? I see they are not cheap but for 6,500 miles of great performance I can live with the price. Mine might last even longer since I only ride really hard about 20% of the time. I don't scuff up my chicken strips all that often just because I don't trust the roads I'm on. If I have a couple of guys ahead of me "minesweeping" for oil and gravel, I don't mind dragging pegs. I think I'll get over 4000 out of the stock rear, though the middle will be bald, and I'd guess 5000 from the front.

Motorcyclesuperstore.com seems to have 3 variations of the PP's including the CT's. The race say they are a dual compound for extended mileage. Are the other 2 supposed to be dual compound? Because it doesn't state that in the description. The Race model is supposed to have an intermediate compound in the center for more mileage. The Medium-Soft combination sounds like a winner.

Don't bother with e race tires...useless in the streets and $$$$$$. Front and rear PP's should sell for $239.00 online...or ask ZX1KR...he sells 'em. The Race series are not PP's, nor are the Sport HPX. PP's are only in one configuration...dual compound -- soft sides, harder center.

Without question Dual Compound tires are the wave of the future.. But most importantly QWICKR now realizes that keeping sticky shoes on her 14 is in her best intrest.. We have done our part in the effort to save another rider from making a mistake that could take that last bit of edge away needed to avoid a bad situation... All in ALL a good day for everyone involved..

AND the education continues for everyone everyday

I'm getting average miles as you posted, but my post said I'm not getting a "trillion" miles out of 'em (such as sport touring tires)

Well the site I mentioned is either full of shit or there is something out there that is not well publicised. They have the Pilot Race, yes, but they have a Pilot Power Race also, and they sell the PP2 CT's. I don't see the PP Race listed on Michelin's site, so I'm not sure what's going on. Any idea what the difference is in the regular PP's and the CT's?

P.S. Ok, I read some more and the CT's just have a softer compound on the sides it seems. Sounds like what I'd want. The sides of my tires will only see moderate amounts of agressive riding. Still can't find much on the PP Race version.

i plan on buying several sets of pirelli tri compound 190s for next season. bill (zx1kr) hooked me up with the new rear tri compound and its OUTSTANDING for the money. all i used on my zx12 (aside from cheap dunslop temps) were the pirelli supercorsa 190 softs with matching front... ive tried plenty other tires but i prefer the pirellis. the new pirelli corsa Pro would be impressive.

Found a bit more info on the Michelin PP Race tires. The PP Race let you chose the 2 compounds you get and they are W rated (168 mph) instead of Z rated (149 mph). They also cost about $50 more than the CT's. The Medium-Soft version sounds like the shit, but I wonder how the durability is.

The Pirelli Diablo Corsa III's sound impressive. Any other opinions on these? Especially concerning the durability. I like the way they are a slick down the centerline. That is supposed to add a bit of mileage to the rear.

I have a set of the Pirelli Corsa III for my 10R BUT I won't mount them till spring.. I have been told they're very quick warm up and you can put a knee down right out of the pits without warmers being used.. They had a Buy a rear and get a front for free deal a couple of months back so I figured what to hell I'll try them.. Wish I could tell you more.

I think the Pilot Race are Pilot Race, not Power's, but yes softer compound and more designed for the track than the street. Lower mileage than the PP's for sure, but I don't have any experience with them, so I can't say. Most people usually opt for the PP's...seems like a great all around choice for the masses. I will say that I've done plenty of track with the track rental 600's and they were always equipped with the PP's. They performed well, even on the track, but are not the best choice for track. Surprisingly though, they stick very well on the track, considering they weren't made for it. If you can hang in there, the 2CT's will be your best option.

If by "Hang in there," I'm assuming you mean the CT's are not available yet, but I've found them on several web sites ready for shipment.

I've also found the Pilot Power Race tires on several sites, which also have the Pilot Race. The PP race are stated to be dual compound tires except for the Soft variety, which is all soft compound. I'm pretty sure they are not the same tire, as you suggested, though I can't find them on the Michelin site.

The PP Race tires are also W rated about $50 more than the Pilot Race.
