I also have a post on here for the oil leak, same symptoms. I cleaned the area and have been checking the oil daily and running to red-line 2nd, 3rd, 4th when I have the room to see what happens and it looks like it stopped. I had a bunch of goo and small amount of oil then cleaned it ran it hard now nothing. It;s really only been 2 days since Icleaned it so its really too early to tell. I did notice I was drawn to the problem because of a burning smell coming from the head pipe area when I came to a light or parked. I dont smell it anymore, maybe something melted like a hose because theres goo all over the hoses running by the number 1 cylinder. I'm going to Intimida2ors tommarrow and have him look, he's a bike Mech so maybe he can tell.
Keep us posted.

One thing i hate more than trying very hard to find a leak is the leak stopping all by itself without a trace

But we'll look it over tomorrow and hopefully find out a little more at least.
If not at least you'll have more power

yea i ck the valve cover to see if the bolts need to be snug. It seems the oil runs from the right side sitting on bike to the left were the fan is. Mine leaks only when the bike is turned off. I put some rtv silicon along the edge of the valve cover. That slowed the leak alot. Mine was wet above the oil pressure sensor. I couldnt find exactly were its coming from. I do know oil doesnt leak up. I dont trust the dealers. Kaw should do a recall on this. I guess thats the type of things that happen on the first year models.

I don't trust the dealers either. Thats the reason I think mineneeds to go in the shop a second time for the exact same problem

Bike went in today for the second time leaking oil from the head cover gasket.

Dealer had new gasket and head cover ordered already But they were baffled the gasket didn't fix it first time. They called Kawi, and Kawi told them this time to replace some bolts too! (I forgot the name)

If this fixes my14's problem finally, I'll ask the name of these magical bolts and post the info here.

When they puul the head have then run a indicactor on the deck and the head. A check for flatness or a machining flaw (scratch) will cause a leak that no head gasket can fix.

The kids they call mechanics may not know to do that. They just pull the haed and replace the gasket and think "da should be good now. Uh"

NO ....it still leaks ya moron

my head gasket has been leaking for at least 2 years now. very slow (not enough to drip oil on the ground) but incredibly annoying. i'll definteily be interested to hear what the solution is.

OK I promised I'd post the solution if Kawasaki corrected the valve cover leak problem the second time it was in the shop. After a few weeks of riding, I can safely say the problem appears to be solved.

The first trip the dealer replaced the valve cover gasket. Did not correct the problem.

Took my 14 back, the dealer called Kawi. They suggested we replace the head cover, the head cover gasket, and most importantly the 6 BOLTS/O-rings. Here are the part #'s that solved my problem if your bike is having similar problem (and maybe you'd like to mention these to your warranty shop). Replaced:

6 each Ring-O, Head cover bolt- 92055-1616
1 each Gasket head cover 11061-0195
1 each Cover, Head, FS Black 14091-0494-11E

Dayum! That is some real BS for a few O-rings! I liked your justification to buy a second bike. But, I have a car and a truck, a little hard for me to justify another 2 wheels! So far, I have no oil leaks that I have noticed, but you never know. Thanks for posting your problems and your results. Sounds like it is finally put together correctly!

Glad you gt it fixed Steve! I have been watching mine like a hawk, so far so good. It is great you printed out the parts that solved the issue, in case anyone else sees the same problem. i just got the service manual and there is a specific torque process that is mentioned, I wonder if they didn't follow it the other times. Great that you are back!

Is this a random leak that happens or does this happened after a X amount of miles?

Yes it appears to be random, my bike is four years old and no leaks so far. The fix, given elsewhere on this forum, is to use M10 washers under the head cover bolts allowing the gasket to be squeezed tighter before the bolts bottom out. If you have a leak it's worth taking the cover off and cleaning it all up first, also checking that the gasket is seated correctly.

This also also be caused by a warped valve cover? I didn't get a close look but some of the newer vehicles these days cone with plastic valve covers that we have found leaking because they weren't molded completely flat.
