1417 piston kit

Called JE the other day they have a price and a part number for the piston kit but no pistons. Out of curiosity i would like some opinion on a naturally aspirated 1417 zx-14. What do you think the hp numbers would look like. Do you think you wououl have to do a good head job or a mere clean up the head like the zx12 for a litle better flow.

i am thinking that the kit will give us about 195-197 just bt dropping it in. maybe another 4-6 with a head job. what do u guys think a 205-215 everyday rider

I'd bet a 1417 kit on a 14 with a ported head would be about 205-210 with stock cams and with good cams and tune would be a 215-220 motor all day long!

Just remember, you can't take the cylinders off, they are part of the upper case.
If you want a big bore kit, you have to remove the engine, split the cases, send the upper half to be bored, and replatted, then reassemble. What a HUGE PITA!!!
You could just go with NOS, or a turbo, and not have such a headache. Both have advantages and disadvagates.
JE contacted me and wanted me to send my stock pistons and cylinders in for the measurements, but when I found out I would have to split the cases I said hell no.
The offer might still be out there. Contact JE and see if they still need some stock pistons/cylinders for measurements. I think they offered me pistons/boring/replatting for about 600 to 800 bucks.

I would not do it unless I wanted to build a race bike............and $$$ would be less of an issue. As a daily bike the simple no flies/PC/gearing/pipes is great and then a lil juice. Im happy................heard the BST CF wheels will be out soon :-)

I pulled my flies awhile back, and though I only got a chance to ride it on the drag strip, on the return road I whacked the throttle open and this thing will rip your arms out. It has plenty of power. I didn't notice any difference in my times with the flies out, and it was just as hard to launch as before. But with flies out, it reminds me of my Busa.

Okay, so forget about boring. What are guys getting by porting the heads, doing a nice valve job/springs and maybe running with some hotter cams? I would imagine 190 to 195 horses would be possible with this set when you consider the bike has 170 horses once the flies are removed and a pipe is slapped on.

I posted the same question on another forum. From what I can tell it isn't worth it to do the cams port and polish may only gain 5-7. Apparently the 14 head is very efficent from the factory

Wow!! That's not good news. It's very expensive to bore because of its design and doesn't yield big gains from head work and cams. I guess you could spray but I like building motors. I shy away from power adders.

stage 1 turbo will be same$ and make more power than 1417 kit, all day long.
The high compression BB engines have issues with starting sometimes....

Brock claims 200+ hp from a 2008 zx14 with there new M10/M14 exhaust combo with MR9 race gas (and probably no air filter, running on "0" weight oil, using a no O ring 520 chain, etc.). I've seen 5 or 6 zx-14s run on different local dyno's and the numbers with a full exhaust and PCIII seem to be in the high 170's to the high 180's on pump gas with air filters in etc... which was enough in every dyno shootout to win BTW.

I got 170hp 104 tq at the rear on my 2008 14 totally stock. I would hope it would be more than that with a pipe,pcIII.

Kawasaki made some changes in the programming for '08. The '06 & '07 will routinely dyno in the mid 160's until the flies are removed, a pipe and PC are thrown on and some filters go in. In most cases you're only talking the mid 170's even after all that.
