Got my PC3 today - what's the consensus on the best place to mount the PC3 unit?

Got my PC3 today - how reliable is the 9Volt method of programming? I assume it's just as safe as when mounted on the bike with the ignition on/running?

Also, what seems to be the the favorite spot for mounting the unit of the three places I've seen...thanks...

Only method I've ever used. Never had a problem.

I installed it where recommended by Dynojet because it was easy and quick. Negative is the need to remove the dashboard panel to access the USB port if you want to change maps. I've changed maps 3 times so far. Removing the dashboard is quick.

Some have installed it under the seat. It is easier to access. Negative is that it takes up the already very limited space and I intend to use that space for something else. Another negative is that it is more difficult to route the cables to that location, but it can be done.

The positives and negatives for either case are not overwhelming in my opinion so put it where you want to.

Flat spot under the seat. You have to lift the tank up a bit to run the wire. You might want to mount it where Raptor has his mounted if you plan to mount other things under the seat someday, as it gets crowded there. Right now I have PCIII, speedohealer, and the Digi-kill2 for my airshifter all mounted under the seat.

After all the probs on the 12R with the cables rubbing, I don't want to put it anywhere near the seat. The stock location keeps the cables away from any rub spots.

Raptor, have you tried hooking one of those 1 foot long usb extender cables you get with the USB flash drives? If you had this hooked up, couldn't you place the extension in a place (using velcro) so that you just pull it out and hook up the USB?

Under the seat is the cleanest and most accessable ..... IMHO

Teamspeed, the use of a USB extension cable is a good idea. Never thought of that. May take a trip down to CompUSA this weekend and see what's available. I use the extenders on my home PC cause I have a ton of USB ports in the rear of the unit and I wanted to have them located in front. Thanks.

zxbob, I personally favored the underseat location. I chose not to put it there only because of the limited space and the fact that I'm locating other things in that location. I certainly agree that it is most accessible.

In front of the insturment panel under the shield. Fits great, and easy to get to. 6 screws to remove the shield, and its right there. Cable fits like it was made for this location, grounded at the ram air attach point to the plenum. Very clean and leaves the space under the seat open for an aux fuse box for accys........TB
