drilling exhaust

Just wanting to know?. I had a 2001 gsxr1000 and a cheap mop was to drill the muffler. Has anyone tried this for some more power and exhaust note.

I'd imagine alot of work, to remove the baffles and cats too, without destryoing the canisters

No we would just drill it with a 12inch drill bit. Look inside the muffler you can see plate, just a couple of hole there and it should reduce some back pressure and maybe make the exhaust a little louder work on the gsxrs

There was a thread a few days back that showed a cut out of the stock cans.
I think the most restrictive part are the cats as dubious alluded to

Hmmmmmmm, Curious...
But I love my Brock..
The Stock cans are so damn heavy
I was amazed at the increased handling once they were gone.

exactly. imho not worth drilling the cans cause of the weight. spend a little cash (area p's slipons are quite reasonable) and save a gob of weight as well.

I dont think there is any chance of metal shavings getting sucked back to the engine just start up the bike and a few wacks and everthing will be blown out but I might take them off

Want to know cheap and quick? Saw off the muffs with a band saw, that way you have the stock mid pipes. Put on a set of junk slipons you have laying around the shop. You have lost the weight and all it cost is a little time.....TB

i did it............ sorry i dont have any pics, but.... im a welder. i cut the left pipe off and welded a cap on the left flange and tightend it back on, then i cut the end of the canister (tacked on) and used a plasma cutter to cut the baffle plate out, then tacke it back on. then i cut the upper piece off and removed the "cat", and the mesh piece behind it.
i was getting some popping on decel, with a little bit of back fire. so i plan to plug the hose, in the future for full system application. so far so good. it sounds nice, not so abnoxiously loud, w/ nice power. no map or TRE yet. Please reply w/ pros or cons.
