How much HP is your chain robbing?

Well, I tried chain wax on it, as it does not fling off, and dries so it will not attract dirt.
Used it on MX chains for some time now.
I noticed my chain was getting less flexible. The wax and dirt were gumming up the action.

I had one of these lying around but have never used it:

Its called a chain scrubber made by "MOOSE" off road accessories.
it did wonders. It comes with a cleaning solution which i beleive to be keroseen.

mine was the 520 chain model for dirt bikes, but it worked on the 530 chain on the 14 because chain pitch is the same, just the width of the links are different.

It really free'd up the binding from crud and crap.
It also has a lube port to hook up the lube tube,, and keeps the chain lube where it belongs... on your chain when applying it.
I highly recomend it!

BTW, I would say it freed up 1/2 HP LOL
Power ... we need more power captain !
Now my chain follows the sproket better instead of bouncing, and making noise off the slider.

BTW what are you using for chain lube?
I'm considering just using WD40, but have heard mixed reviews, as it swells and cracks the o-rings supposedly.

WD40 corrodes rubber...PJ Blue got the best write up, but flings off bad so I still use chain wax..on the inside of the chain only and then I wipe off the excess on the outside and top. Kerosene is perfect for getting the dirt off and I do a hand clean (spray bottle) every 6-7K or so with it...takes only 15 minutes and the chain and sprocket look factory fresh. My chains last well over 30k, usually...

you need to try one of these, no mess on the floor, clean hands, 2 minute job, no overspray from lubing!
There is a sproket inside and brushes, that scrub the rollers, and both sides of the plates.
It really is a cool peice!
My $300 chain was like new.
I used to do it by hand, but hand cleaning will never do as good a job
I'm pretty anal, and only give props when i really like something!

$30!
I will own one forever ...

OK , I gave that a quick peruse.
The moose has a lid that slides off the bottom case, do not pry upward, slide it off.
Put the bike on cenetr stand , or rear stand for best results, to keep the case level, and fluid in the box.
I dumped the solution in ther 1/4 full like moose suggests, put the bottom case under the bottom side of swingarm, slid the cover on, rotated the wheel by hand in reverse direction, till the box touched the frame, then continued to run the chain backwards, for about 10 quick complete rotations.
Let the cleaner sit for a 2 minutes while finnishing my beer, then another 5 quick rotations.
Remover the box, and dumped the contents into my used oil container, wiped excess cleaner off the chain, wiped out the box quickly and stored away for next time.

probably not necessary to let it sit, but I'm anal.

Voila perfectly clean chain, looks new and seems to have less friction than new.

That other contraption looked awefully awkward.

Add says:

With internal brushing sprocket removed, chain lube can be applied easily and evenly through a built in applicator ..

what sprocket needs removal?

Can clean while spinning rear tire means can clean chain whith chain and both sprockets in place or not?

If no removal of anything looks like a very good buy..

Look up in this thread to buy...the URL is a few posts up...I clean every 5K or so, but also wipe down after each lube...Dubious says that the Moose box works very fast...I do it by hand to clean the chain and sprocket...takes me only 15 minutes to get it lickety clean. Might buy the box and clean more often though

When you run out of the "sludge away" that came with the box, just use Kerosene...works fast...some say WD40, jury is still out on that one.

I think they are talking about removing a sprocket from inside of the Moose cleaner gadget - not a sprocket on your motorcycle.

I happened to already own one for my dirtbikes 520 chain, and it works on the 530 as well!
