Another noise question My 14 has about 3000 km (1800miles) on it now and generally runs great except that after she is warm and I pull up to a stop either in neutral or clutch in, if I blip the throttle ever so slightly I can hear a knock type sound for a second or so after I let off the throttle (under no load)....wonder if it could be back-snatch from a chain driven gear (alternator, starter clutch) etc etc.?? It definitely has my attention but will only make the noise at low rpm off load and at no other time....any thoughts or experiences are appreciated...thx

Mine makes that noise as well, I fogure it's something opening or kicking in or something, mine does it if I blip it from idle to about 2000 rpm's

Funny thing though, I cant hear it when my earplugs are out, only when they are in. So that means that my dealer isn't going to hear it, so I might as well get used to it and think about the extended warranty. SWFT mentioned only the cam id chain driven so it wouldn't surprise me at all if thats what it is, if it stays the same I guess it's normal. Anyways thanks for the input.....

I don't think that's what I'm hearing. I think it almost sounds like the throttle plates opening and closing, maybe I just have sensitve ears.

You have the clutch pulled in, you might be slapping the center basket when you blip the throttle. Same with clutch out, and in neutral. The center basket rocks inside the clutch outer. You keep slapping that motor, go ahead, "back-snatch' the chain, indent the outer clutch basket...like it's not hammering grooves in it just by normal riding.
The clutch basket is huge. Lots of rolling mass in there. You have a throttle blip hiccup. It's not the engine..., check for wrist causing induced noise.
You're a bad dog, srufin......go in the paper!.......go on the Paper!.... bad dog!

I actually think I can hear it when slowing down to a stop while in gear (usually 2nd) and it occours at exactly the same rpm as bently suggested around 2000. Hey VegasDude just wondering how the counterbalancers are driven? and how the rapping/knocking noise might eminate from them....thx again for input everybody it's always appreciated

mine does the same...seems to be most noticeable at full operating temp and after riding for quite a while on warmer days it seems to be the worst...almost sounds likr the motor wanting to lug like beginings of detonation(only under no load??) also seems like it might be something heavy rotating that has to catch up when you blip the throttle..maybe counterbalancers...but as long as everyone else is having the same...ill just keep the extended warranty going.

Thx Easy, are they the typical kawi counterbalancers with the locknut? Does it need to be done stone cold? As you can tell I haven't picked up the manual yet..thx

Makes sense: clutch in/clutch out = same noise. Thanks for the rethink. I'm loozin' it.
Spring loaded (gear quieting) double gears on the balancers, and you're taking the free play out to quiet the engine?
This adjustment is not even on the maintenance schedule? Start on page 102 in the owners manual. I may have missed that one too?

That's funny smoke. OK, I won't be subtle now. Leave it (the balancers) the fuck alone!!!
You set the balancers upon assembly. The gears use rubber cushioned internals. There is a spring loaded gear you take a screwdriver to, twist the gear against the spring, so you can set the gear in the crank's gear tooth. Once the gear is in place, any thrust is taken up by the loaded gear springing back on the crank gears. Limited gear noise is achieved because it takes up any gear slap (accel/decel) That's it. Where is your noise? There is no adjust short of setting it statically when the cases were split. Now you moved the marks and took the eccentric out of the shaft.
I'm not set up for a scanner. Could anyone with a manual shoot page section 9-31and 9-33 and send it in please? This will tell you how to adjust the balancers. You need the photos, or you'll kind of be lost by wording alone.
You wonder why it's so hard to diagnose over the net when someone describes a sound?

I feel the sound is piston slap ... But Easy posted he had the same sound and adjusted the ballancers and the sound is gone ... The bike runs fine but i hate the knocking sound !!!!!!!! So i'm looking for any fix short of ripping the motor down ...I hate riding the bike because of the sound and find myself riding my other bike just so i do not have to hear it...
I hope you can understand my feeling and why i'm so upset... I didn't by the best rocket in the market to hear knocking sounds, if thats what i wanted i would have another noisy Busa...

What can I tell ya? I lit off the puppy just now, clutch/in/out, and all I can hear is, "sweet nasty." That is one quiet bike on my end. I have no idea what is going on with everyone else's?

Hey, my Harleys etc make all sorts of noise - perhaps that's why they are so LOUD - so you can hear what you NEED to hear.
