Buell/Harley Demo Last Weekend

I did a Harley/Buell demo last weekend. I do as many demo's as I can each year. Hard to have a valid opinion on a bike if you have never ridden one. Unless you own a 'Busa, then you know just by looking at a '14 that they are not any good!

I wanted to ride a V-Rod, but they were booked up longer than I wanted to wait around. I did get out on the XB12 Lightning and XB12 Firebolt. They really are a fun bike, with a modern liquid cooled twin they would be really awesome as they do handle pretty good. The cooling fan for the rear cylinder is about as subtle as a leaf blower when it comes on, which is about 95% of the time and 10 minutes after you stop the bike.

I also rode a basic 1200 Sportster as well......................man that is a primitive bike, absolutely the worst brakes I can recall on any bike I have ridden, absolutely horrible suspension. Rear suspension would bottom out easliy on even minor bumps Front suspension felt like a worn out screen door damper. Engine is rubber mounted, so while it thrashes around in the frame, the felt vibration once you are moving is tolerable. It had conventionally mounted foot pegs (not forward mounted ones) and they always were exactly where I wanted to place my legs when stopped. Why do people buy these things?

So comparing Harley/Buell to a '14 is like comparing one of these...................

To one of these!

Funny you mention it, I traded in my 05 xb12s with 1200 miles on it for my 14. I could not stand to ride very long on the buell although the first 30 minuets are a blast. After that your azz gets fatigue and your boys go totally numb (no joke). I cant run the motor up very much as it feels as if the piston wants to come out the side of the block. But you want to wheelie?? Ya its the bike for that.

ZREXER, where do you find all these demos ?

It's funny what you've said about the Harely....I can't believe the prices those things sell for.

The happiest two days in a sportster owners life are ;
The day he/she gets it .
The day he/she gets it sold .
But they get to hang out and drink with the other POS riding freaks out there who think they are cool and stuff .... Because without the bike they'd have nobody to talk to . And besides all that , they don't have any idea what a motorcycle is supposed to ride and handle like in the first place ( not even a clue ) . Dicks .
____________
Get up off your ass and ride !!

I live in Edmonton. Most dealers have demo's, I just keep my eye open and talk to other riders. I'm doing a Victory demo tomorrow and a Ducati demo in early July as well.
I'm very happy witht he '14, but I like to sample as manyother bikes as I can each year.
