Airbox mod?
I pulled the bike apart the other night to take the air filter out and got curious. I pullled the tank and took the plates off the top of the airbox. There is awhole lot of space in there and from the way it looked "to me anyways" was the air had to travel into the airbox off the back wall and into the stacks then into the motor. Now i'm not saying this helped...but i rounded a piece of thick plastic and rolled it aound the back of the airbox and sealed around it. It looks to be like a smother shot of air into the stacks. I burnt my clutch lastnight so i couldnt tell you if it helped or not...i guess only expensive dyno time will tell.

I wouldn't think that reduced (pressurized or not) airbox volume would help much and that plastic will distribute the air within the airbox differently as well - just a thought.

Gas dynamics and airplanes have taught me that in order to recover pressure by ram air you need to turn the velocity(speed) of the gas into pressure by slowing it down. That said, the plenum area should be large so the gas can slow, thereby creating the desirable pressure. And the maximum pressure available is speed dependent. I'll have to look it up but from memory it's about 1 psi @ 180 mph.
Just got my black one and as soon as I look in the plenum , I'll post my thoughts.

I wouldn't say it reduced the size of the airbox awole lot...just made a straighter shot for the air to go into. I have never done a airbox mod on a bike before so i may have totally screwed it up..but i'm all up for trying.
Yea i burnt the clutch...had about 30 passes on it. I'm just guessing crappy oil, 10 grand launches and 240 pounds of me didnt help..but i got a new one on the way, hopefully it will be in Tuesday so i can run points Wednesday night.

Sounds to me like you've just eliminated the diffusion area...

Dude, did you read any of the magazine reviews? They flogged the bikes down the strip for three days straight with no clutch probs. Any clutch probs are prolly due to OE.

My guess is: it's a bad clutch => warranty repair

Everything I've read says the 14 likes to be launched at 4K.
Why pray tell are you launching at 10K? You gotta be doing a boatload of cluch slipping at that RPM to keep from flipping over backwards....

yea I dont know about 10k myself. Ive been launching at 4500. I sure hope I dont have clutch problems like some of you other guys. Brock has more passes on his than 30 and his is still working ok. I think it depends on the rider.

10,000 RPM launch hell yeah it's burnt lol. Didn't you see the video of Ricky
leaving at about 4500 RPMs and did a 9.17@153Mph so you need to re think
burning your clutch that much. I know it wants to wheelie and with no extended
swing arm that might be why you feel you have to burn the clutch that bad on a
launch...........................................

I tried varing my launches....5 grand 8 and 10. I was getting the best 60's at 10. Ricky gadson isn't 240 pounds in riding gear either. I tried just using torque to get out of the hole but got that damn 5000RPM bog. I read the report from Brock and he said he couldnt get the clutch out till the middle of 2nd...i could barely get mine out at the end of first. I think the crap oil had alot to do with it too...steels were fine but fibers were gummy and wore. Oil come out looking like water. Bought some full synthetic Kaw Tech 9.00$ a quart, new filter, and clutch, hopefully it will be in tonight..i'll let you guys know how it does tomorrow.
