Drag times.....

Went to the drags lastnight. There was nobody there so we got about 25 passes in....I'll give you a ideal of what happened.
Muncie IN, 800ft above sea level....89degress...90% humidity
I'm 5'10 235 pounds (fat)...with riding gear....I'm a good but not great dragracer.

Made 20 passes...best was a 10.21 at 138. I flogged this bike pass after pass after pass. The bike has 10.0's in it with me on it, but on the good passes i would miss a gear or some stupid crap like that. Avereged 1.75 to 1.71 60' ft's.

Put lighter rider on it...alot better dragracer....ran best of 9.72 at 145..1.62 60ft's

The bike ran good all night took alot of abuse i made 5-6 passes back to back and never seen any clutch slippage...i like this bike but i'm going to have to lose some serious weight to go faster. I'm happy with it

Not bad times, I bet with some more practice you can run 9.90's Whats your 330ft and 1/8 mile time?

Where are you from? Muncie is about 45 minutes from me, not a bad track for a cornfield strip. If you can't stop beyond the 1/4 mile, the corn and beans will do it for you. Went there a ton with my Z28...

Stock ride height? If so, I wouldn't be disappointed at all. In fact, if were me on it, I'd be ecstatic with those times if it were 10-over and a 1/2-inch off the ground! LOL!

cant remember what my 330's were..but i was thinking my 1/8 was around 6.70's-6.80's..something like that. I think the hardest part of riding the bike was just how quiet it was. If you didn't stare at the tach you didnt know where to shift. I played around and done some passes shifting at 10 then 11 grand...seemed like shifting at 11 was better. sixty foots were ok...not great...this was the first time i had this bike down the track. I took a year off from dragracing and i'm alittle rusty but it's starting to come back. I think these are closer #'s to what your going to see from "normal???" size guys. Oh...i also ordered my co2 shifter from schnitz today...i'm going to make a bracket and mout it to the inside of one of the exhaust bolts.....i got spoiled riding a airshifted bike.

Muncie is about a hour from our house in Fountain City...were there every Wednesday and will be there tomorrow for the fast and the furious night.

I want to see what this bike will do without touching the motor. I figure a stretch, slam, gear, airshifter...will put my fatass in the 9.70's-9.60's.....then the exhaust,PC,airfilter will hopefully me in the 9.30-920's on a good pass.

I was launching at about 10 and slipping the clutch all the way through 1st. The problem with the shift light was...it's just too small. With it being at the bottom right hand corner of the gauges it was hard to notice. Your trying to launch..slip the clutch..get your feet up...steer the bike...just all this stuff and try to stare at a half inch light. What would be cool would be if the whole display flashed at a set RPM instead of a small light. Maybe something like a "dragmode"...display flashes a bright yellow at a set RPM and have a memory play back of RPM from the time you let the clutch out....kind of like the automter tach for cars.....just a thought

Not bad ... i had the same problems as you .. But i did later get a 1.64 60 and ran a 6.36 I/8 mile track ... I have a friend that is some what of a pro racer and he jumped on a new zx14 with only a Muzzy pipe and ran 9.36 on his first run ...He is testing tonight with a strap , lowered and Muzzy p/c and map... He feels it will go 8s ..His 06 gixxer runs 8 stock wheel base , so if he can do it on a liter bike i guess he can do it on a zx14..

Just a thought...what if somebody made another LCD screen set up more for dragracing...just maybe gas, temp and a tach playback with flashing screen for shiftlight. Gas and temp could have a more acurate gauge instead of just bars...throw in a ODO and maybe color changeable backlighting and your set. All plug and play. There's my million dollar ideal...lol

I was going to try and ring out as much as i can without motor mods but at the end of the night with the bike in the trailer i noticed the pipes were white on the end, like it was running lean....usually i only see this when bikes run race gas but i was running good ol'e 92 octane. I think the best bang for your buck right off the bat would be extensions...then pipe...then PC,airfilter and a good map. I truly think doing all the normal mods you do for a dragbike these days, it will runs 8's. It takes around 200hp to push a busa in the 8's...well now you have a zx14, with mods, around 200hp and a few pounds lighter, running 8's with no juice...time will tell what these bikes can do. You can put a skinny little crackhead on anybike and make it go fast, lets just hope us bigger guys can hang.

It came out of the hole hard then just fell on it's face for the rest of the pass. The bike went 9.77 with a 1.65 sixty foot so far....stock, just lowered. Called schnitz got a new one on the way and my airshifter showed up yesterday...i'll keep you guys posted on what happens....oh yea it only had 532 miles on it......ouch lol

i think it was 145...that pass was with my lighter (175 pound) cousin on it. The way it sits i can go 10'0-9.90's on it, my mph is usually around 138-140. I really need a aftermarket exhaust...i need all the weight savings i can get

Alright finally got a good race session in without rain. Made about 10 pass's lastnight. Good air, slight tailwind, but the track sucked. 1st pass was a 10.06 at 140mph, 2nd pass blew the tire off, went down to 25 psi and almost hooked the rest of the night. Couldn't better my first pass...(figures) but the bike pulled consestant 10.0's 10 teens all night. This is stock and lowered (no air filter) with a 232 pound rider...(stepped on scales lastnight) Most of my 60's were 1.73-1.75 but was a even 1.70 on the .o6 pass. Clutch held up fine with the good oil in it. I put it in Tuesday night, drove it down the street, and then put 10 pass's on it Wednesday....lol. If i was 50 pounds lighter i would think 9.60's wouldn't be a problem...aftermarket exhaust, good map-9.30's-stretch gear-9 teens. Oh bye the way letting 10 psi out of the tire killed 3 mph on the top end..if track hooked better,35psi i think i would have gone 9.90's

Surprsied you went through a clutch that soon, hope thats not the case when I start running out to my local track next fri. I was hoping it was as good as my busa clutch, I had over 400 runs on that clutch plus 8000 street miles. But I don't slip my clutch when I launch, so I hope for the same results from my 14.

Your getting there !! keep working on your 60s and 330 times and you will see 9s real soon.....I have found out that i'm not getting the throttle pinned the way i'm riding ..You have to really think about it each pass ...After each pass i try to think back on what i just did and i'm only at 3/4 throttle till 3 gear...I had my wrist to low on the throttle... Last night i set on the bike and played racer just the way i was at the track in the staging lanes ...Low and behold where i had my wrist i could not even get full throttle , my arm would hit the gas tank long before full on !!! If i move my hand so my wrist is all most up right i can get full throttle long before i hit the tank...Its little things like that cost you ET and MPH.... If you look at some of the pictures of Rick Gadson and other top racers on the starting line you will see what i'm talking about... Keep up the good work...Smokin...

Sounds like your first trip too the track was identical to mine. I'm about 185, bike ran 10.30's at 135. Best was 10.27 at 136. At work now, but got all the parts I need. Swingarm extension, lowering links and straps, Muzzy exhaust, powercommander, and most importantly, a camera mount so I can video my runs. Will keep you posted.

Good luck and let use all know how you do.... One item ...You will never be able to tuck in with a camera on the tank ...It will kill you mph for sure ..But it will be neat to see the video....Smokin...

Well I got me one of these http://www.sportbikecam.com/
It mounts low on the tank. I probably won't go full tuck, but we'll see. I'm hoping it's high enough to video the gauges as well as the track. But if it's not, your gonna see a real cool video of my tach/speedo.

I get first pen'd at the top of first....start with my elbow high to where when the throttle is wide open my elbow is close to the tank. I dont back off to shift...just blip the clutch and smack the shifter...takes alittle practice. Acouple more times and and i think the way it sits 9.90's wont be a problem. I called schnitz and left a message on ryans voicemail..hope to get the bike on the dyno soon to get it tuned. I'll buy exhaust and pc at the same time
