Ram Air

This may be a stupid question, but the '14 is the first bike I have had with ram air.

My bike was pretty plastered with bugs from my 180 mile ride home last night. How much of the dead bugs make it to your air filter?
I would think the air filter on a bike with ram air must get plugged up pretty quick. How long do filters typically last?

Bugs end up sitting at the bottom of the filter area on my bikes...my filter on the 10R lasted like 8K miles before it got black. Ram air won't make much difference till about 100 MPH or so though.

Think about this.....Under 100 mph, you don't have to draw from a Vacuume environment like on a non Ram Air bike. How much performance do you think that is worth?!

ZREXER: Clean your filters every 8-10k depending on your environment. Bugs do get in. However, as the air SLOWS Down entering the Frame, the big pieces fall out of the airstream.

Well at 1100 miles, mine looked pretty clean. I had removed the ducting to see if any
mods could be done for better flow. Hope someone comes out with some straighter
tubes rather than those air bouncing boxes that are in there now.

A straiter "tube" will not do anything in this application. We are not looking to improve air velocity. We want to slow it down to allow pressure to rise.

Find all the leaks in the system and seal them up. You do not want to bleed off any valuable gains in pressure.

My rule of thumb is I service the air filters every other oil change and I change oil every 1.5-2k miles depending on what I've been up to and the time that has gone by.

At that rate, lets say servicing the filters every 3.5K miles, you'l find some bugs but not too bad. Of course I live in Colorado and we don't have near the bug population that you'll find down south or more humid places.

Rain/Fog is also a "scoop" factor besides bugs. Keep an eye on the clear plastic condensation container... located at the lower left fairing panel. It's one of the hoses clipped to the idle adjust cable for another trail down to it.
