Kawasaki Knows Best
Have you guys read the new Cycle World?? It seems that no matter how much you open the throttle below 5k, the cpu is programed to limit the amount of accleration you get. The so called "flat spot" is really a program, that Kawasaki, built into the cpu. HUH??
I guess Kawasaki knows we are too stupid to handle low end torque and they know best.
It would seem to me that, the majority of riding will be below 5k and it would be nice to have full power there to pass traffic safely.
The days of "big brother" are truely here. I guess they figured that the 10r riders are smarter--

I do not think so---the only thing the pc does is modify the fuel curve and timing. If this program is in the guts of the cpu and actually controls the throttle openings, the Power commander will not be able to bypass that base program. I think it would take a new cpu for this to be eliminated.

Easy fix, just drop 3 gears and smack it. If that doesnt work drop 4 gears.
I never did understand the point of "roll ons". If the other guy is "rolling on" because he is in the wrong gear, you should be in the right gear going by him like he's out of fuel.
Now if the bike has direct drive or a single speed tranny then ok, I'd be worried about "roll on".

I guess Kawasaki didnt give any advertising $$$ to cycle world, they must be Suzuki fans anyway
I hear ya Jim...Lets see the magazines do 2nd and 3rd gear rollons
That would never happen though, all the guys from the car magazines would be real upset s...

If indeed the power curve is programmed to be restricted below 5000 RPM, it would be easily accomplished by the secondary butterfly in the intake system. Only one is controlled directly by the throttle. The second is fly-by-wire computer controlled. There must be a way to re-program this feature.

If you need more power below 5k twist the throttle!
Please tell me how you would be below 5k and WOT.
If you could somehow pull that off how long do you think it would be
before the big ninja pulled thru that stunt and went above 5k.
Sounds like the best of both worlds, well manored below 5k
for everday riding and only a twitch away for a fire breathing beast.

I am not talking about "full out" performance or any "roll ons". I guess we all have our different riding styles, but I love a back country road, and the feel of a big bore bike pulling hard as you roll on the throttle---not WFO !!! Also, I kinda hate my bike telling me what is good for me. Next thing will be a little voice saying "YOUR STUPID FUCK--SLOW DOWN".

It's not an unrideable flat spot. I only find it noticable when rolling on steadily, then it feels kind of like a turbo lag. The pickup is so responsive after you roll past 5k, that I think it accentuates the "lag". On my bike I can only really feel it between 3500 and 4k, and only if I'm paying attention.

True - It's really not *that* bad. Not bad enough that I'm going to run out and spend a bunch more money to get rid of it. Would it be nice if there was a switch that you could flip to turn it off, sure, but there isn't, so we simply downshift if we need a little more punch.

This is nothing new - Suzuki already does this. This excerpt is from Ivan's site advertising for a TRE...Kwak will probably need the same device.
"The TRE is a device which allows much better throttle response in the first 4 gears on all EFI Suzuki sportbike models.
What the manufacturer has done is to make a SEPARATE IGNITION MAP FOR EACH GEAR.
This has been done for either safety and/or emissions reasons. However, it limits the power and smoothness of your bike in the first 1/2 turn of the throttle in gears 1 through 4."

Truthfully, when you're exiting a corner on this thing...you should be thankful it doesn't pull like a Busa at low end - keeps you from losing yer back end...I am very happy with the power setup.

I agree, in fact I find I have to back off the throttle on some corners because I twist for SOME acceleration and as rpms build things get serious pretty quick. I find no need for any more low end power, could I use it, yes, but I don't find myself wanting any more. The more I ride this thing the more I think Kawasaki made the perfect sport bike for us larger adults (200+ lbs). I just wish they made one for the inseam callenged and I'd buy 14 for my wife too.

Keep in mind boys and girls, here in America, we are a litigious society and if and when trial lawyers take aim at powerful sport bikes, our fun is over, end of story.
