It looks to me like Kaw took a design they allready had, updated the lighting and tossed in a few other cosmetics. Then they added a 'busa killing engine.

If you old timers here remember, Kawi said that when they were first developing the 12R in the windtunnel they came upon a design that was very aero, but that it was so unconventional (ugly) , and that the design was very similiar to the 'busa.
They dropped it because marketing said it won't sell.
Well here it is, imho.
As for the handling concerns: the 'busa handles as well as the 12R in almost everyway. Kawis aim was not track time, they have the 10R for that along with the 6R/RR.
They built a bike to beat a busa in its own world, the street. The busa out sells the 12R significantly, and without big discounts and rebates to do it. Kawi has entered the market 'target area' of the busa.
The styling is definately different in some aspects, but so is the 'busa and it sells.

For me, it isn't my favorite, but it isnt as ugly as a busa either. Just different than I am used to I guess.
Put a pair of hard bags on it, (not those dam ugly corbins, some nice bags would be nice) and I would be a happy camper. ( literally, hit the road and do some sport touring)
I hope the ergos are similiar to the c model ZX11, as that was one of the most comfortable bikes for the long haul that I have owned.
Now I just hope that when Kawi says it comes in ebony, that means black, NOT glitter black, pearl black, dusty black or any other form of color that is not just plain old 1993 ZX11 ebony black!
Now where is the ZG1400 replacement for the Connie?

Exactly Looks like a sport tourer! I was ready for the next Kawi super bike to come out, oh man the raw feel of pure power, the mean looks! I remember the first time I saw the 12 Oh man it was Awsome!!!! I was expecting the same feeling and actually trying to figure out how to tell the wife I had to get a new bike this year...... Well Kawi you helped me out!! I hate to say this but the Busa guys are now going to tease us about How Ugly the new Kawi is..... I am totally dissapointed that this is actually the bike.... I would like to make a pass on her but I seriously do not see one in my future.....

ZX12R HP and Busa TQ. RF/Honda looks...

Not what they were hoping for and certainly will not be a big seller based on the looks. I guess the ZX12R will be a dead program after all....

Ya know, if they just made all those headlights as two single lenses... made the front fairing smaller...

All that thing needs is the undertail pipes off the 06 10R to complete the whole GAY package! Damn sure makes me glad I have an A1 and A2 12R in my shop. It sure looks like that relationship between Suzuki and Kawasaki is alive and well. As it seems the Suzuki boys got to pencil this one out for the team. Did I mention it was GAY!!!!!!!!!!

This is some cruel trick played by Suzuki. They figured that since they got an ugly ass bike in the Busa for the past 6 years, bought time Kawasaki had one just like it

I'm sure for two up riding and mines bigger than your's bragging rights it will be perfect! Seeing how I have no rear pegs on my 12R and NEVER double up, and that type of bragging shit is best left to the Busa boys and poser boys. This thing is of no use to me. Looks like it would make a great launching platfrom for up at the GAP. Laughable at best I can't wait to hand one of those thing it's AZZZ up there. Yea I'm sure if it can get me down by the lake it'll be sad, but by the time it makes it to the lake I'll be over in Townsend having lunch!!!!!!

Heres my take on this new ZX14...

Motor Forward in the Frame...
Almost same width as the 12...
Bars positioned so rider does'nt have to reach...
Narrow engine, Frame, Gas tank, Narrow seat & seat height with foot pegs set low...
Seamless Torque, making starts from stops possible in almost any gear...
Shift Light & Gear Indicator...
Hydraulic clutch with Radial master cyclinder for silky smooth clutch operation...
Supersized Radiator for efficient cooling...

These changes tell me that Kawasaki has DragRacing in mind which sounds promising!!!

It is set up alot like a Busa...I bet launching this bike at the 1/4 mile will be just like launching a Busa in low RPM due to the Torque...

I cant wait to see this new ZX14 in person and its performance at the DragStrip...

Two-wheeled turd..........

Really not diggin' this bike, to me the '06 'busa looks WAY better.

That says a lot doesn't it.

I may eventually add another 12R to the stable...................................

That black looks better in pics than in person. I'm not too fond of the bass boat black they painted it.

...but it does look killer in pics, and a TON better than that hideous 14.

I hate to say it but with "the masses" and "the jonses" flocking to get the "biggest" . I bet they will be damn near giving the left over 12's away. If thats the case then I will "strip the "goodies" off my "A" model and get a "B" model to put them on. I sure do like the looks of the "A" though. The "B" handles a bit better, and radial brakes.

It looks like the they took away the blurred line between the 10 and the 12 and defined its purpose better. Definitely not as sporty as the 12(at least in looks) and most assuredly built to stomp on the Busa and take over its territory.

It's all about those horsepower numbers, if they are high enough, it's a winner!

How about this for the "marketing folks" ?

It's sad Kawasaki is going in this direction. Looks as if the 10r is their largest sportbike available now.

Hey, where's the hard luggage for this ZX14/ZZR14? I wonder why we just have both - A ZX and a ZZR.
