Changing handlebar
On the Renthal site they warn to NOT modify their handlebars...something about creating stress risers and the subsequent handlebar failure.
So...is it okay to remove the little locating pin from inside the left switchgear housing of most motorcycles? If so, how do you keep it from rotating? Will tightening it down with those two little phillips head screws be sufficient enough to keep it from rotating?
The stock KLR handlebar sucks and will bend very easily...don't ask me how I know :

drilling a small hole for the pin would be the way to go. A piece of rubber like an inner tube between the housing and bars will work .....sorta.
If you have any spray paint around, when you go to put the grips on the bars, lighty spray the inside of the grips. This acts like glue and those suckers wont move again.

...thanks, DB...I knocked off the pin...it moves just slightly if I really try...sort of like a buffer in case of a hard hit, but not enough to make it dangerous...as far as the grips go, I used Renthal's glue and its working so far, but I can sorta tell its going to eventually move with my newbie death grip on the handlebar as I descend and ascend scarey sections...good thing grips are relatively cheap
