...one more time ad nauseum: : When you outlaw guns, only oulaws will have guns. MORE people will die by the guns of the outlaws because the law-abiding gunless people will not have equalizing guns to stop the threat and protect themselves from violent death....whether its by just one gun by an outlaw or a million guns by a million outlawas...
How'bout we have gunless states for law-abiding gunless folks who want to live there...then let gun-totin outlaws loose in those states to do as they please....hmmmm.....
Why is this so difficult to comprehend?
If you legally carry a gun, practice with it and become comfortable with....respect what's in your control, but do not fear it. Use it only when neccessary.

I know that I've disappointed HCI and so many other pro gun control organizations. I've had a CHL (AR Concealed Handgun License - both semi auto and revolver) for eleven years and have yet to shoot a single human being.
AR law requires that I re-qualify at the range every four years. The initial application requires a FBI and state background checks, as well as signed approval of the Director of the State Police, County Sheriff and local Chief of Police. AR currently has reciprocal agreement with 11 other states and is expected to add more this July.
When re-qualifying, my instructor goes beyond the state's minimum requirements before he'll sign off on my Certification Of Training. He requires that I not only show proficiency in both the standard Weaver and Isosceles stances (20', 30' and 50'), but must be able to accurately fire my weapon single handed, with both my right AND left hand at a minimum distance of 20'. His belief is that if something should happen to my "shooting hand" (left in my case), I should still be able to safely defend myself with a minimum risk to innocent others. Some won't go to his range because of this, but I wish everyone did.

Really? only the cops and outlaws have guns in Canada... not the public... explain to me why the crime/murder rate is a fraction of what it is in the USA?

The population is a fraction.
Look at the crime in the cities Fish. No violent crime? Yea right. Compare cities in canada with cities in the usa of similar size. You wont be so impressed with your cities so called "low crime rate".
Look at whats happened in England sence they outlawed private gun ownership. Violent crime is going WAY up. The criminals are now safe.

...put down the pipe...could it be that your criminals are just wannabes and arren't taken seriously?...."EVERYBODY! THIS IS A STICK-UP, EH? LAY DOWN ON THE FLOOR FACE DOWN, EH? AND DON'T LOOK AT ME OR I'LL KILL YOU, EH?....EH YOU, EH? STOP YOUR LAUGHING, EH?".....
...seriously, I don't know what the crime-rate is in NoCan-a-DUH....all know is that we have lots of violent people running loose here in the USA and they have no qualms about doing violent things to unarmed people....so, do you think the violent criminal will buy and register his gun from the local Big-5 SportingGoods Store?....do you think the violent criminal will be disappointed if Big-5 stops carrying guns for sale?....
...gun advocates follow the gun rules and take the time to buy and register their guns legally... they would be very disappointed if they couldn't buy their guns from Big-5....
...and the bad guys?....they could care less about buying their guns from Big-5 and even less about gun laws....they will get their guns the way they always have...illegally....and they will use them for illegal purposes...like killing an innocent and unarmed human being, although I have no problem with them killing off each other...me, I feel safer on the streets and rspecially in my own house...yeah, fish, I kinda' almost feel sorry for you guys up there, but its what you guys voted for, eh?...
...what ARE you going to do if an armed punk came for you?....comply and give him what he wants?....sure, but he doesn't need any witnesses....BANG BANG BANG....dude, you never stood a chance....
...why is this so hard for some people to understand?

bullshit... look at Toronto or Vancouver... both cities of millions of people... easily as large if not larger than any US city and the murder rate isn't even on the scale of comparable.

How about we ship several million undesirables up there such as low lifes and criminals from mexico, south america and cuba. If you think that only hard working illegals running across our southern border are the only ones that cross you are mistaken. Quite a few criminals make it here too. Then add in metric buttload of inner city bred gang bangers just for shits and giggles then see what that does to your crime rate stats.
A lot of crime that is reported happens to be scumbag on scumbag violence which is really only doing society a favor. Dam shame when a hard working innocent person or a child gets killed.
The problem is not the gun, knife or any other tool used. It is the fact that society is screwed up. We have single parents raising kids (which are quite often kids themselves) where the kids spend more time in front of the TV than they do learning psrsonal responsibility, morals and ethics. Right and wrong is rarely taught to youth these days. Seems that is not politically correct. Punishment is a time out and other useless crap dreamed up by bleeding heart cry babies that still does notthing towards actually teaching a child about actions and consequences. Then you have the spread of the wonderful gangbanger/thug lifestyle that music, movies and tv shows love to glorify.
We also have a justice system that puts violent criminals back on the streets quicker than they can be picked up. And then you wonder why violent crime is on the rise here.
Gun violence gets reported by the media. Rarely will any other form of homicide make it to the evening news. When it does 9 times out of 10 even though it was a stabbing they media will still have a gun in the background. No bias there. Until we change a lot of things here crime will always be an issue and on the rise.
Banning guns will not make anyone safer and will only take away the means for people to defend themselves. The antis think some feel good laws that ban one thing or another will make up for all the wrongs of society. Sorry, it won't do any good.
The way I see it is it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. If you don't want a gun then fine. Don't buy one. But also don't tell me I cant have one. I am a responsible adult and am perfectly capable of owning, storing and handling firearms.
Don't want to get shot so we should ban guns? Fine. I don't want to get run over while riding my bike so I say we ban cars. If you have never driven in the LA area I have a much better change of getting run over than shot.

Oh really? Nice try, fish twat. It seems that while Canada's homicide rate is going up, our's is going down. What cracks me up is that ONE THIRD of Canada's murders are commited with a weapon y'all aren't supposed to have. Let's compare "apples to apples".
Some 2004 stats:
sources: Canada's National Statistics Agency & US DOJ/FBI
Canada
Over the years, the primary method used to commit homicide has varied between stabbings and shootings. With 63 more than in 2003, the most common method used last year was stabbings, accounting for one-third of all homicides. Beatings accounted for 22% and strangulation/suffocation for a further 10%.
There were 172 homicides committed with a firearm in 2004, 11 more than in 2003 and 20 more than in 2002. During the past 10 years, the proportion of homicides involving a firearm has remained fairly stable, ranging from 26% to 34%. In 2004, the proportion was 28%.
The highest homicide rates among the provinces were reported in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, followed by Alberta and British Columbia. Quebec and Ontario's rates were below the national average, while the lowest rates were found in Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Manitoba's rate of 4.27 homicides per 100,000 population was the second highest in that province since data were first collected in 1961. With almost double the number of homicides in 2004 from the previous year, Winnipeg recorded the highest rate, 4.89, among the nine CMAs with populations over 500,000. Regina had the highest rate of all CMAs at 4.98.
United States
Estimated number of murders in the United States declined 2.4 percent from the 2003 figure. An analysis of 5- and 10-year trend data showed that the 2004 estimate increased 3.5 percent from the 2000 estimate, but decreased 25.3 percent from the estimated number of murders a decade ago (1995). Nationwide, the 2004 data yielded an estimated rate of 5.5 murders per 100,000 inhabitants, a 3.3-percent decline from the 2003 rate and a 0.8-percent decrease compared with the 2000 rate. In addition, the 2004 rate was 33.2 percent lower than the national murder rate for 1995.
Regional overview of the 2004 murder data follows.
Northeast
In 2004, the Northeast accounted for 18.6 percent of the Nation's population and 14.1 percent of the estimated number of murders. The Northeast registered a 1.9-percent decline when compared with the 2003 estimate. The offense rate for this region was estimated at 4.2 murders per 100,000 residents, a 2.1-percent decline compared with the 2003 rate.
Midwest
The Midwest accounted for 22.4 percent of the United States' total population and 19.3 percent of the estimated number of murders that occurred in 2004. The Midwest experienced a murder rate of 4.7 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants, a 3.9-percent decrease from the 2003 rate.
South
The Nation's most populous region, the South, accounted for 36.1 percent of the total population in 2004. Forty-three (43.0) percent of the estimated number of murders were reported in this region. The region posted an estimated rate of 6.6 murders per 100,000 in population, a 5.0-percent decline from the 2003 rate.
West
Twenty--three percent of the Nation's inhabitants lived in the West in 2004, and 23.7 percent of the estimated number of murders were reported in this region. This region experienced a murder rate (5.7 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants) that remained virtually unchanged from the 2003 rate.

BTW - Those numbers include 217 cases ruled as "justifiable homicides" committed by armed private citizens. Almost double the amount committed by law enfocement agencies. I guess cops arrest... private citizens "defend themselves" and save U.S. tax dollars.
Of course, I doubt the dramatic decrease in US homicides since 1995 would have anything to do with the 37 states with "Right to Carry" laws and two states (Alaska and Vermont) do not reqire a permit.
If the national decrease in both murder and violent crimes in general, mirrored Florida since it enacted the first CCL in 1987, the U.S. would have one of the lowest rates on the globe.

Red, excelent post. I didnt feal like getting into the details.... thanks.
When the statistics are put out for all to see there is really no debate.
But 60 minutes, dateline, the networks, cnn, etc. constantly misrepresent the truth and lie to push thier anti second amendment views.
They dont even try to hide thier bias anymore. Its right out in the open now and they have no shame in spreading lies to support thier agenda.
The most gullable and easily influenced group of people who swallow up thier bullshit is the housewifes who stay home and hear the constant almost daily "guns are bad" drumbeat from the mainstream media. Over and over and over and over.... they just assume its all true.
It falls under the "If you hear the same thing over and over again you start to believe it" syndrome.
60 minutes is the worst. you NEVER get the whole story on ANYTHING they report on.
They omit any factual information on a story that doesnt fit thier agenda, or they trivialize it.
Pathettic that people actually watch 60 minutes.

I hate to agree with Fish, but right across the Bridge from Detroit is Windsor Ontario Canada and Michael Moore, the Guy that did Roger and Me left Detroit and walked down a few streets there and most of the houses he went to the Front Door was "UN-LOCKED" and I think the Report said that they had something like either 3 or 13 People for the entire year Murdered vs what you have in Detroit which is less than 1 mile away! which had something like 500! during the same time period I would say that that is a HUGE DIfference! Who here leaves their doors unlocked? Specially the Front doors!
