In late 03 I spent 2 weeks in the south of France on those exact roads, for the first few days trying to get used to riding on the wrong side of the road and drop offs into oblivion with just a small rock or concrete wall as per the video. By the end of the first week I was no better than the maniac running the whole setup, three of us got sick of waiting for the remainder of the group to catch up so we split for the second week and went our own way.
I can honestly say it was the best riding of my life to date, having an expert rider give one on one advise with runs lasting a full tank of fuel then a de brief I learnt more about riding skill in those two weeks than in the past 43 years.
I would not ride like that back home for the following reasons, in France their was NO traffic to contend with paritcularly in the mountains, the people have a bike mentality and just moved out of our way unlike here. The roads were like Philip Island race track we were changing tyres at the end of everyday on the bikes, I did have two very close incidents that would have seen me shipped home in a body bag had they not gone my way and I actually managed to keep the bike right side up both times.
While I don't ride on the speed limit on the open road ( and who does ) I have a healthy respect for the conditions that dictate my attitude at the time and to date have only ever been down on the track once thanks to some moron who couldn't control himself.
While the video shows what appears reckless riding it was probably the fact they were filming the ride that the incident occurred in the first place fixation is a bitch and clearly what happed to the first rider in this instance. Got off lucky by the looks of it ,at least he stayed on the right side of the barrier.
