I wonder when my bike is going to explode? I've been running an after market exhaust which makes less exhaust preasure, non OE air and oil filter, non OE oil, I even run distilled water instead of coolant. I just hoping the U4 fuel I run doesn't give any more combustion, I would hate for any extra preasure to cause my engine to explode.Man, I should take off my weak Gilles Tooling rear sets and put on some extra strong OE sets. And take off those BT002 tires inplace of some extra sticky D218 because those are what the bike was developed on. And put the fuel map back to stock because these bikes can only......You can't teach a dumb dog any tricks.

You're right on the page here!!!!!!!!!!!! Guys that think OEM is the only way to go on shit are the same guys I wish would come along a buy a bridge from me. AND worse than that is when it's explained to them nicely and they STILL think they're on the inside track and want to argue. To those guys I say LAY DOWN!!!! Your dealer has something he wants to shove up yur ARSE!

Gunner i understand what u are saying but look at five o's comments in the zx12 thread. the filters may be as good as oem the problem is i dont trust advertisements and claims. i trust what is working for the one who is pushing them to the limit.i know people who put -put around and never change there oil or filter for years. but they not pushing it. as soon as you push a motor like that (BOOM). i have heard of those filters callapsing inside under extreme pressure. use what u want. i am sticking to what i know works.

We race about 30 laps a night on 1/4 to 1/2 size ovals. Mileage would not be that high, but we run them right on the limiter all night. I have seen them last 6 laps and I have seen them last 4 years. I think the main thing that gets them is oil related. Some guys just take better care of there stuff than others. I have not seen this "clip" deal at all that I know of. I have seen the shafts break, but only a few times. Always oil related!!! I am not an engine builder, so this could be a weak spot in the engines. Someone that has them apart all the time might want to start looking at that.

5 -0 this was in the oil pump issue over on zx12

One last thing to always keep in mind. Bean counters run most companies these days. That much we can agree on. If the bean counters can find or spec a lesser grade filter that will still fill the bill DON'T think for a minute that they won't. Take our beloved 10R for example. Ask yourself why it only has Titanium Exhaust valves and not Ti on both ends? We all know Ti on both ends would be better. Looks like the bean counters won out on that one Eh??? Anytime you can have a liter valve train it's better for several reasons. The engineers spec what they want and the Geeks tell them how much of it they can have. Sorry to report that's the way it's done.

Also there are many after Market filters that I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. Fram just happens to be one. BIG NAME and COMPLETE DOG SHIT QUALITY! So I don't believe everything I read or hear either. This filter thing was researched to death a couple of years ago by a man that is much better with a search engine than me. The guy that gathered all the info could probably search out what really happened to Hoffa. He's that good at digging deep into the facts. When he researched the OEM filter and found it's exact specs we were shocked to find that it was ONLY a middle of the road filter quality wise. I always used OEM up till that time myself.

I'm done in here myself.............................

That's hilarious! But don't forget to remove that DOT4 synthetic brake fluid, braided steel brake lines, upgraded aftermarket brake pads, and rotors so you can put the factory stuff back on. Everyone knows that you can't beat OEM/factory brake parts, right?

Well, I just got done changing my oil. Purolator Pure One + 1 gallon Shell Rotella T =
Total cost: $ 22.58. There's a reason why "Jiffy lube" stays in business, Advertisement is a dangerous thang!

If there happens to be a defect or any kind of engine problem while under warrentee with a non-OEM oil filter, have fun trying to get it warrenteed!!!

according to K&P engineering (the people who make the stainless & billet oil filter):
quote:
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, 15 U.S.C. SS 2301-2312 (1982), and the general principles of the Federal Trade Commission Act, a manufacturer may not require the use of any brand of filter unless the manufacturer provides that item free of charge under terms of the warranty. So, if you are told by a dealer that anything other than a specific brand of filter will void your warranty, ask for the statement in writing (you won't get one), and request that filter be supplied free of charge. If you are charged for the filter, the dealer will be violating the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and other applicable law. This is a federal law and the Federal Trade Commission has authority to enforce it, including obtaining injunctions and orders containing affirmative relief. For more info do an Internet search on "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act".

Thanks for posting that!

I just came back from Powersports East, and they were out of the K filter, then the K&N, and then he offered me a Honda filter, which was the same thing, according to him.

I'm going to look into the URABUS filter, especially if the Fram filters that I picked up won't fit.

Here you go these are your choices:SUBARU OE OIL FILTER: 15208AA080 PUROLATOR OIL FILTER: L14612 FRAM OIL FILTER: PH6607 WIX OIL FILTER: 51365 K&N OIL FILTER: HP-1008 AMSOIL OIL FILTER: SDF13 ...

Thanks for posting about the Purolator Subaru filters!

I just picked up 5 Purolator oil filters, for what I pay for one Kawasaki (Denso) oil filter.

I also switched from standard Kawasaki 10W40 oil to Rotella T 5W40 Synthetic.

I plan on changing the oil and filter every 1000 miles, is that over-kill?

FYI, I've had the anti-drainback (ADB) valves on the K&N filters stick closed, which resulted in no oil flow whatsoever. Needless to say, I don't use K&N oil filters any more. I'm not sure if that's a K&N-specific ADB valve design, or if it's common with other Champion Labs products.

If you have questions about your oil's longevity, you can always send it out for analysis to places like Blackstone Labs. $20 will get you a PDF with a chemical analysis and a subjective report on your oil's condition, along with other recommendations. They even store your past analyses by vehicle so you can compare from one fill to the next, as well as to an average for your make/model from their database.

Jesus, way to revive a year-old thread.

Swft, I get my Bosch filters at Autozone. Sorry I took a while to get back to you...

BTW, both bikes have 2100+ racetrack miles on 'em, going strong with the Bosch and Rotella-T Synth.

I use the same oil in my race bikes. The XHVI Group 3 base oil is the common thread between Rotella-T Synth, Helix Ultra, Helix Racing and Advance Ultra 4, which are Shell's worldwide premier performance oils.

I also use Bosch 3323's on my Hondas and Yamahas, but I don't think they make anything that fits Suzukis.

Changing the oil every 1000 miles is not overkill. Changing the filter is. Let it go at least 3k.
