Help me decide...

Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a bike, and I'm torn btw a ZX-10R and an R1. I used to own a R1 and an R6, and I was very happy with both of them. I want to ask those who are familiar with both about the pros and cons of these bikes. In other words, why should I get the ZX-10R and not an R1?

They both have more than enough power for me. I'm just looking to see why some consider the ZX-10R a better over all bike. Others swear by Yamaha. I have not had a bike since 02, so I'm kinda out of the loop. I may get the ZX-10R just as a change of pace, but I really want to hear more about how comfortable the ride is and how it handles. ANY info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

/Harry

The bikes are so close that it really just boils down to personal choice.

Sit on both of em side by side to make the best determination for comfort.

I have the new ZX10R and am totally in love with it. I wasnt sure to start with as I had last years and did not think it was as nice looking. I have just put some akrapovic cans on and it has transformed it. I would say this its not as mental as last years and doesnt want to wheelie everywhere but it does feel alot more stable. It still wheelies easy but you just have to work it more as for the R1 my dad has one and he let me use it the other day as my pride and joy fell of the stand. I did around 150 miles on my dads bike and would have to say this it handles really well but isnt very exciting to ride. I would go for the ZX10R( WHAT A BIKE)

I had a R1 and an R6 in the past. The R1 (02) was a much harder bike for me to learn, and yes, it was my first real bike. I'm not a huge fan of the Gixer1000, cosmetically it doesn't appeal to me. I found the R1 to be real exciting to drive, and at certain moments, dangerous. Thing would lift on it's own with just a touch on the throttle (before I learned how to really ride). I plan to take the bike on longer road trips, I was wondering if I would have a more comfortable ride with the ZX10R? I never once had a problem with my R1 in the past. Man, this is a tough call. I appreciate all the input guys. Thanks.

Gold Wings are comfortable - sport bikes are not.

Yer priorities seem a lil outta order.

In my humble opinion... the '06 10R is a very comfortable, down-in-it ride if you're looking for something that aggressive. Though I truly love my '05 10R, I'm wondering why anyone "wouldn't" consider the ZX14. Especially when it's only a few hundred more. It is by far the most powerful, comfortable, amazing bike I've ever ridden. (and I get around a bit...) It's smooth as silk around town, room to stretch out a tad on a longer haul, and handles the twisties amazingly well for it's size. Granted it will never be as nimble as the 10's... but dang that's one hell of a bike! So..... if you can find one ....(lol)
Good luck!

The 14 handles great even in the tight stuff. The power will make your eyeballs pop out

I'm a dyed in the wool Kawasaki fan. It's been my experience that there are design elements in Kawis that over the period of ownership usually make the experience more rewarding than the other japanese bikes. That said, if I were to choose between the 10 and the R1, I would hold out and opt for the 07 R1. I think we got a taste of whats coming down the Yamaha sportbike pipeline with the 06 R6. I expect the new R1will blow the wing nuts off Kawis 06 rendition of the 10. Yamaha overstepped a 2 year turnover cycle for its replacement so I expect next years bike will be that much better.

I have no brand loyalty. But I do like a slipper clutch. The R1 is sans slipper. If i was picking between the two i would say the Ninja.
