slow speed crashes cause what harms?

just wondering what a slow speed drop might do to my zx10r. I was going very slow at the time it fell, almost a full stop, pretty much an endo (rear end lifted about a couple feet and then slammed back down and then the bike fell sideways) There is scratches here and their but the scratches aren't even bad, looks like a couple of tiny pebbles touched the side fairing. The tail has a small crack, tank has a quarter size light ding in it. I am just wondering if their is anything bad that can happen internally? I plan on keeping the bike for a long time and dont want engine problems with who knows what? synchronization, spark plugs, ? etc etc. I just want to make sure it is like brand new all the time.

I think the biggest thing would prolly be the radiator mounting points and hoses....I woudl pull the fairings off the bike and check all the motor mounts and hoses to make sure everthing was ok...more than likely it is.....a stoppie gone bad, got to hate that.....

Your's faired much better than mine did on a 25 mph sliding dump. Nothing internal was affected.. Tank had a huge dent and the tail section had a hole in it big enough to stick your fist in. all the left fairings (lower, middle and left upper) were damaged. Other items included peg, mid/lower fairng bracket, clutch lever, started cover, seat, bar end and even the rear axle and nut. Retail value of the replacement parts exceeded $2,300.

I'd figure that if yours did not sustain a similar level of outward damage, I doubt you've don't anything internally.

Still, I would agree with HDL and remove at least the lower and middle fairings and closely inspect EVERYTHING! Wires, electrical connections, brackets, hoses, cables, bolts and all mounting points (i.e. radiator, etc.). It will take some time and you might want to take a break every once and a while, the return to continue the inspection process. The reason behind this is because after looking for broken stuff for a while, you might miss something. Even when you're looking right at it.

It probably wouldn't hurt to change the oil, but I wouldn't sweat it too much unless it was about time to change it anyway.

hey, thanks bro, the only damage i had was very small pebble marks on the side and lower side fairing, the clutch lever had no scratches, the tail had a small crack and the front upper V shaped fairing cracked in half, my guess from the strain of the fall, but it cracked right at the mounting points by one of the mirrors. Overall, the tail was pretty much the only thing that had enough damage to see from over 4 or 5 feet away from the bike. The tank has a small quarter size ding but I think I can fix that for $150 max and have it repainted. I just need to find either a black 04 tank or a blue 04 tank. I might be getting some blue fairings so a blue tank would match.

You likely blew the internal smetzlering calibration. I can sell you my recalibrator, but it's gonna cost you.

Throw in your first born and we have a deal. If it's any consolation, I've crashed well over a dozen times. It's never affected the engine. You do want to loosen EVERYthing in the front end except the lower triple tree pinch bolts and the axle. That will allow the parts to re-align.
