I'm with you on this one Silver. Gentleman one thing we should all be able to rely on in this place is that all family members are off limits to any sort of banter or demeaning comments. Joke or not, saying you'll post a pic of someone elses wife out of the blue like that and implying that you'll take care of her in the meantime is way off base. Shit Junior, you didn't even put a smiley next to it to attempt to pacify him. Not a lot of respect for a fellow enthusianst if you ask me.

I survived a number of years in New York - it's just like LA; ass loads of traffic, gangs, 85/1 foreigner to white guy ratio, housing's ridiculously overpriced and and everybody's an asshole.
Only difference here is I can ride my bike in a t-shirt 340 days out of the year and never have to check the weather beyond looking out the window before I grab my helmet and go.

I think TedG just did what you should have done in the first place....he turned an "insult" directed at his mom against the guy who flung the insult. That is verbal Jui Jitsu and the the essence of the defense against the "MOM Joke". The only reason why any of those words have any bite is if there is any doubt about the quality of character with regards to the person involved. If someone says they saw my mom sucking cock for crack on ___street on wednesday night, I know that's not true, so I respond with : "that can't be, on wednesdays I have her working on ___Ave". Seriously, though......I know the quality of character of my family and any insults against them slide off me like I'm covered in Teflon.
Perhaps certain work environments create thicker skin, but in my line of work that kind of shit is normal, and if a guy gets pissy about a "MOM Joke" or "wife Joke", he becomes a very good target for future shenanigans....as the guy obviously reacts "well" to that stimulus. It's like the scene in "Stripes", where the guys are introducing themselves to each other, and the one guy; "psycho" tries to set things "straight"....if you haven't seen the movie, take the time and get a good laugh.
The thing that makes this whole situation ridiculous is that you have admitted that you don't even have a wife. In your shoes, I would have said: "Ok, you dimwitted, misinformed douchebag....you'd better get your facts straight. I'm not married.....do you think I would be so stupid as to get married?".......problem solved. Based on the idea that we are supposed to leave family alone, does that also mean we have to leave imaginary family as well?
I know Junior S personally. He would say it to your face and then smile...while waiting for the response. I also know that he can take a joke as well. I have ridden him like a rented mule for days (right JJ? Lizard?) during our 2003 trip to SBW, and he took it in stride. Junior does not need my moral support...he's a big boy and can take care of himself, but I think this situation has been blown way out of proportion.
Now, as far as your comments about Canada.....you should perhaps get your facts straight before insinuating that we are cowards. On a personal level, Canadians can be pretty quiet and reserved (there are exceptions), but we are generally quite tough and determined. On a national scale we are not the aggressors in confrontations....perhaps you see that as cowardice. That is a big mistake....you've heard the saying "walk softly and carry a big stick"? I can go further with my retort to your attempted insults, but there is really no point. Your unimformed opinions mean very little to me....which is the same attitude you would have been better off to have used right off the start of this thread.....

For someone that gets so offended by a joke that was pretty light weight, you sure don't have a problem dishing it out big time to a person who didn't insult you in any way. So look at yourself and see if lightening up just a bit wouldn't make life a bit easier. Many of us are friends that actually met and spent time with. We know we are just poking fun.
