For those considdering the 2006
I've only had the bike two days and yes I am still breaking it in, but boy I LOVE this bike already.
Ironic - my previous two bikes were the 2005 ZX10 and the Suzuki GSX-R1000 K6 and in my opinion the 2006 ZX10 is literally a crossbreed between the two bikes; its like the Kawasaki engineers down in the basement research lab figured out how to teleport two bikes to the same location at exactly the same time and handed the chief engineer a remote with a large red button reading "Create new ZX10". 
Everything that bugged me from the 05 ZX10 is gone. Everything that bugged me from the K6 is gone. I pinch myself every 5 minutes just to make sure this is not a dream.
I'm a tall guy (say 6 ft and change) and I got used to the very aggressive riding position of the K6, so the change over to the 06 ZX10 was not actually no big deal for me, in fact, as far as I can tell the handling of the 06 ZX10 is better than on the K6, and...wait for it; the riding position of the 06 ZX10 is LESS aggressive than the K6. Sweet!
I have a feeling that I'm going to do some of my most enjoyable riding on the new 2006 ZX10; the bike just inspires so much confidence, it somehow retained a lot of the feel of the 05 model but with some new characteristics.

Fasta: Some of the many endearing qualities of the 04-05 ZX-10 were the induction roar, and the throaty aftermarket-quality sound from the stock exhaust. How does the 06 compare on these two points?

Gremlin: I've decided to take the first few miles easy as part of the break-in so I can't really give you quality info about the induction roar or what the bike sounds like flying down a straight, but...
My first impression is that the new bike may be slightly quieter than the 05 (judging from the lower engine speeds). Great sound though.
I had a yoshi on the Suzuki and that thing was so loud that I had to be careful when getting on the juice because the fuzz could hear me coming a mile away.
Perhaps I'll add a "colorful" side comment regarding the way I see the whole 06 exhaust concern (in the spirit of my little analogy from earlier):
Say your girlfriend Jenny is this sweet girl but she does this wicked thing where she whispers a nasty word in your ear at "the right time", increasing the experience for you with a few notches, but...
Your friends keep reminding you that Jenny is not as photogenic as Susan next door; you happen to know from your childhood "experimentation" that Susan will make a damn racket from start to finish, and that she has a helping of carrots in the morning with her Korn Flakes that may give her a little more stamina (even though yours is limited). Decision time;
Do you get rid of Jenny and ride around with (and or on) Susan, or do you stick with Jenny and you stop fixating on just how great your photo album would look if you were with Susan? 
Just a little humor, I know everyone here has their own preference. Nothing like an interesting childhood to make for interesting forum postings...
