thank you all for your prayers....
An update on Carl...He did not get the surgery on his hand yesterday, a gentleman came in as a priority when he cut his hand half off. Carls surgery was pushed back until friday. They will also do the surgery on his arm and leg at the same time. they have his lung reinflated, and removed the chest tube yesterday, however his breathing was very shallow so they reinserted it. Last night they were going to try to remove it for short periods at a time to see how he did.....he was writing notes to people in the room last night (to his family, as we arent allowed back in ICU to see him yet). His dad says he is getting stronger, and more alert, always a good sign....
Will post more as I find out.....thanks again for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers....its greatly appreciated....

The body heals, I hope for the best for your buddy but a prayer request from "Hells Dark Lord" is a little disturbing.

Damn Jim, Just saw this. Prayers coming your way.
Been too much of this lately. We lost another ZRX guy to a crash, local guy I recruited into the group. Was 46, I didn'teven find out until a couple weeks after when I stopped in the dealership for parts. His son was on a bike behind him when it happened, bad scene.

I am sorry to see that Greg, and I apreciate the thoughts and prayers for Carl....Will be going up this afternoon to visit him. I didint go last night after work as I talked to his father and he told me that the surgery had gotten pushed back until yesterday afternoon, so i would not have gotten to see him.....

Carl's crash is a personal nightmare of mine that I've had for years as I'm sure many of us have. Meeting a cag over the line and being committed 100% to your own line is a thought that sends a chill up my spine. I hope Carl will recover 100% and ride again. He's a very lucky man indeed to have survived a head on with a utility bed on a ton truck. It's also very pleasing to see how the guys respond to each other during bad times. I hope 2006 riding season is a safer one that 2005. It's been a tough year and it's not over. PLEASE guys be safe and don't ride if your head is somewhere else. 100% at all times is a good rule to impose on one's self. AND WEAR DA GEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HDL give our best to Carl.

Prayers sent from WV.
Not sure how many here remember, but in Aug, 2001, I hit a car head on on my Zx-12R. I broke 4 ribs, ruptured my spleen and broke my shoulder too. I didn't break my arm or leg tho. I was also on a ventilator for a day or two. The point is, I know where he is at this point. It will take some time, but he'll be ok. Just be there for him if and when he wants to talk aboujt what happened.
On the lighter side, as soon as I was off the ventilator and able to use a phone, I called the dealership from my hospital bed and bought another bike before I had a chance to change my mind......or my wife had time to tell me I couldn't. ;-)

thank you all for the thoughts and prayers.....Carl had surgery on his hand and arm last friday, and his leg on sunday. His hand and arm went well, I have not yet heard a status on his leg, I will go up tonight to find out. I got to see Carl on Saturday and his spirits were good, he gave me a thumbs up when I asked him how he was doing. He still cant talk as he still has the breathing tube down his throat. They hope that will come out this week.....
All in all he is doing as well as can be expected, but is still not out of the woods yet. Once the surgeries are over then he will be on the road to recovery. As far as I know he has 1 surgery left to finish repairing the leg.....unless something changes......

Jim I will pray for Carl and his family tonight. I hope all is going as well as can be expected with Carl.
I also hope he is younger than I am. I have read that numerious Level 2 and level 3 tramas can be as life threatening as a level 1, It must be a terrible strain for all involved.

It is very scary hearing something like this happen. Last year I hit a deer on my way to work. I was very lucky and didn't even lay the bike down. A couple weeks after that, I was on my way to work again and saw a guy that also hit a deer on his bike. Unfortunately he did not make out as well as I did. He was laying on the road and the ambulance was on its way when I got there. It really makes you stop and seriously think about getting out of the sport but then I think about how much enjoyment I get out of it. Then only thing we can do is ride as safely as possible and wear the best gear available. I hope that Carl has a speedy and full recovery.

Jim, where did the accident happen? I live in Louisville Ky and am certainly familiar with the University of Louisville hospital emergency room having been there after my accident 18 months ago. Did Klienert and Kuntz operate on his hand?
