After sitting on the 06....
I found it to have less legroom than the 04/05 ... is it just me, or does the 06 feel smaller?
as for the rest of it, I agree with others that it looks much better in person than it photographs.
As for the exhaust I am confident that the aftermarket will be all over it with a better looking version.
Also not too jazzed about the rear turnsignals. They're intergrated, but fet kinda cheap... DOT rules prevent them from being flushmounted, so I understand why the compromise is being made... I guess some LED flushmounts would fix that up too.
All in all pretty cool looking bike...
OHLINS is a very nice touch.
BTW 06 R1 is really nice.
Nice fit and finish again.

uh oh...does that less legroom feeling seem to you that a 6'4" guy like me will feel too cramped and perched atop of the '06 model?

well... since we're the same height, that may be the case... since I'm 6' 3.5 ... I'd have to sit on it again to really get a feel for it, but it did feel more cramped to me (my initial reaction)

As an odd combination to go along with your observation of less apparent legroom, one of the magazine ride reports on the new 10R complained (lightly) of the 10R dragging pegs where the Gixxer does not. So from that it doesn't sound as if they put the pegs particularly high.
Unless maybe it has horribly big "hero blobs" on it? I didn't notice in pictures?
EDIT/UPDATE: Yes, ah, actually it does have quite the hero blobs:

So actually, if the "Buell peg" trick works on this bike, from the standpoint of your feet you could have the pegs one inch lower without any functional loss of clearance, as the blobs surely extend at least one inch below the pegs.

From Kevin Ash's report on the '06:
'even a taller rider like me fits without feeling unduly cramped'
Good reason to get a roadtest in a.s.a.p.

...I hope the aftermarket makes flush-mounts for the 10 and the 14....the whole thing with DOT is total viewable surface area and minimum width between the lenses, if I'm not mistaken....which is why some LEAs will use their local vehicle codes re turn-sigs as probable cause to stop a motorcycle on public roads...most codes will say something like: "...shall not alter or modify....etc....."....but you gotta know that most cops probably don't give a shit about it...and yeah, I'll use it very rarely , too, if I'm hard-up to make contact with a motorcyclist and I'm lacking any other PC for the stop...me?...I'd flush 'em if I had 'em...just a little friendly fyi for you folks from your very own officer friendly

Of course this is a perspective sort of thing but when I read the part about it being easier to drag the hero blobs on the 10 than the Gixxer, my thought was that it was easier to get the bike on it's side. I did not take it to mean that the pegs were lower.

THe 06 felt like it had less leg room to me too.
I did notice that there is a significant reinforcement lip running the length of the ram air tube sides though.

I wonder if the upper will fit an 04/05 model? Hopefully the aftermarket will make a nice lower that won't have those big ass CAT holes in it. It would the best of both worlds. I like the new upper. And you would have the tail and exhaust from the 04/05

I have a 10 and 05 636 sitting side by side in my garage and I compare them everytime I walk past. The 636 has a better looking upper than the 10. Si if it's a direct swap to put the new 10 upper on my 05 10 it will have one. I really want to make my bike different from most others anyway. I hate the undertail on the 06 so this would be a great deal for myself if it will work out.
