Redline?
Just recently noticed as I was revving the bike for a friend that I dont hit a rev limiter...ever. Saw 14k with the gauge pegged (dropped immediately of course) and it didnt bounce off the limiter. Whats the deal? Kinda scary knowing I could easily get overexcited and over-rev the motor while riding.
When does the limiter kick in if at all?
By the way, its an '04 ZX10

It's a "soft limiter". So it's not like a full shut down when you hit it. If I recall, it doesn't come in until like 13.5 or so. So perhaps you were right there and simply mis-read the gauge a little bit. Really, there's not much reason to take it past about 11.5 or so on a stocker, the power is dropping off after that anyway. When you say you were "revving the bike for a friend", are you saying you were doing this in neutral?

The tach has the same inaccuracy as the speedo. On the dyno, my bike hit the rev-limiter at 13,500 according to the tach. The dyno said my bike actually hit the rev-limiter at 12,700.

Yup, tachs aren't ever as accurate as most think they are. The 1st R6 was the 1st to redline at 15,500 rpm's, but when the needle hits 15,500 rpm's the engine was only doing about 14,500+. So when you see your 06 R6 hitting 17,500 rpm's as stated in the sale pamphlet don't count on it. The fly-by-wire is trick kit though, if not useless for the street-only riders, but could lead to trac-control and anti-wheelie devices for the literbikes in years to come. Boy am I getting off track, nevermind me. Stock tachs are off.
