Engine noise issue resolved
Hi guys,
Just thought the following info may be useful to some.
Godzilla (my ZX10) had a weird "clacking" (for lack of a better word) noise when driving around at lower revs; say 2000 - 4500 rpm. It almost sounds like when kids put a card between the spokes of his bicycle.
At first I thought that this was *normal* for this engine because I've seen postings and polls on the web where members motioned a similar noise as well and I'm aware that the ZX10 has a bit of a reputation of having a mechanically sounding engine...anyway, to the point:
The bike went in for its 1000km service this week and when I mentioned this noise to the service manager he told me that they would investigate. They made some phone calls to Kawasaki because they could not figure out what it was but it turned out that the noise was actually coming from something called the alternator balancer (I'm mechanically challenged - I put petrol in the bike, I start the bike, I ride the bike - the rest is just a black box to me). So after they adjusted this alternator balancer thingy the engine sounds sweet.
So if you experience the same issue, ask your local Kawa workshop to check this out.
