The ZX10 and it's place in history
If you have been a ZX10 fan for a while, you are certainly aware of the fact that it did not win every comparison test last year. A lot of magazines said other bikes were better, for some reason or another. I think the ZX10 actually was given a 4th or 5th place ranking by one of the British mags last year. Obviously, the bike exceeded their talents. They should stick to mopeds. Of course, no matter what they said the results were, we knew that the ZX10 was the best liter bike on the market.
But I have noticed something very interesting this year with the introduction of the '05 GSX-R1000. EVERY magazine, EVERY comparison test now seems to think that the '04 ZX10 was really the bike to beat last year. Not the R1, not the CBR1000RR and not the '04 G1K. And, guess what? It is still the bike to beat this year, as well. As far as I have seen, the stock '05 ZX10 has outperformed the stock K5 gixxer in every track comparison held so far. It will not win every test again this year. But we know that the ZX10 is still the best production liter bike on the market.
I think that years from now, when the motorcycle historians look back on this period of sport bikes, the ZX10 will be regarded as having established a new high water mark for liter bikes.
Long live the king.

I haven't been following the flight of the 10 until about 3 weeks ago. But I have caught up and read most of the 04 articles. It is easy to see that this bike is truly the one to beat. The 05 GSXR seems to be a great bike but somehow it isn't the animal the 10 is. Yes it has the power but it seems to go about it differently and loses something in the translation.

I have 4000 miles on mine and to tell you the truth when I first got it i was like what the fugg. I was not impressed with the low and midrange at all. However l new that my bike was running way too lean because it would pop on decel like crazy. This year I took my stock 10 and put on the evo2 system, powercommander with the map from Dynojet , went up 1 tooth in the rear put on a DID 525erv chain while I was at it . I know that the map that I have right now is not perfect because it will still( although rare) pop on decel; but my god this thing is a FUGGING animal now. Everything that the magazines say about the 10 is now true about my bike. I absolutely can't believe how hard this thing pulls now. I want to get my own custom map, but i spent alot of money this spring so I am going to wait; not to mention my back tire is bald. I also had an issue with the nervous front end at high speed. I put on the hyper pro rsc damper and she is rock steady now. I am now very happy that I decided to keep it.

Little doubt that the ZX10 was something that put Kawi back on the map and got everyone's attention last year. History will tell if it will be thought of as being the 'it' bike as the CBR900 did in '93, the R1 did in '98, and the GSXR1K did in 2001. The big difference is those bike simpy obliterated their competition and did it for a couple years in a row.
Its unfortunate the 10 was launched alongside other new bikes and did not always put that kind of stamp of authority that the other hallmark bikes mentinod above had done to their rivals.
There is also no doubt that the K5 seems to be underwhelming. Too much hype probably. Like with any test, many will place more credibility on certain articles, but FWIW, it did take the track portion in SR, which is fairly well respected and know.

I also have noticed a distinct bias toward Suzuki and against Kwak. They are always disappointed when they can't make the Suzuki the best. That only shows how good the 10 really is.
