New stock tire flat Hey guys/gals,
I had a really bad day today and it started with a flat on my ZX10R rear tire. I noticed it just as I was about to go to work this morning. The bike only has 538 miles on it and I have a shit tire. Now for my question, I'm getting from the dealer that they don't cover the tires under warrantee since its considered a wear item. Bullshit. Anyway, I need to replace the tire obviously but I don't want to change the front since it only has 538 miles on it, I am not a wealthy man, and I really didn't plan on upgrading the tires just yet. Should I try and get the same stock Dunlop Powermax D218 for the back, or should (can I) I get a different brand? Will it mess up my riding going with a different brand while leaving the front stock? Thanks.
Oh, and when I came home tonight the bike was on its side from the stupid ass high winds! What a great day!

Since you only have 538 miles on the bike and you have a ways to go to complete yer break in, why not just get the tire patched and deal with it in the spring er so er whenever the bike is broken in enough to ride WOT...

I would tend to agree you with. Though I'm not a fan of patching street bike tires. I'd go with plugging it. I've used these in emergency situations to get home and never had a problem (used it on 4 occasions). Always carry one in the tail section (CO2 cartridge, inflator hose, plugs, glue). I think Progressive makes a nice kit.

Yes, I leave my bike outside. I am not 'Johnny Rich' here that can afford a million dollar bike shed after spending 11,000 on a superbike. I have a cover for it and it gets used every time I park it at the house. I don't think it would be smart for me to just patch it since I ride it to and from work via highway, plus this IS a liter bike. Do any of you have the Dunlop 208s? How do they compare to the 218s? Thanks.

I've patched tires on my sport-tourer...It's a ZZR1200. Weighs over 600 lbs, 135 or so hp at the back tire. Many many highway miles at 70-90. No probs. Then again, if I was going to do a long trip through the twisty stuff, I would opt for a new tire. But highway riding, imho, is pretty easy on a tire.

VG... as I said earlier, since yer bike isnt broken in yet you;d be abale to get a way with a patch just fine (a proper one installed at a shop)... that should get you 1K miles extra out of that tire and then give you a chance to decide what kinda tire you want to buy... since yer not "Jonny Rich", as you said, this is a cheap, safe and easy solution to get yer bike back up and running whilst you're limited in speed etc with it at this point anyways...
alrighty.. that's my 2$ werth ...
(BTW the exact same thing happened to me with my 12R back in 00 when it was brand new... flat rear with 150miles on the odo... patched it and used the tire for the break in period... it was a major piss off, but c'est la vie! )

I have patched and put plugs in tires...If you have a nail in it, then the belts are already broken, so put a plug in it...I have put a couple thousand miles on a tire with a plug, even had 2 plugs in it, didnt notice any handling problems and have been over 100 everytime I rode it!!!
