Dino and I survived the Seattle 100!

We'll get some pics up soon. Just a note to let you know that the Seattle 100 was FUN!

The event took place at Pacific Raceway, located in Auburn, WA. It was Dino's first time on the track. I remember telling him that the track had a definate 'personality' to it and that I thought he would enjoy it.

Nothing like being out there and seeing AMA riders at work on the track. And saying to yourself 'How the HELL did he do THAT??'

As an example, I was going through turn 2, prolly around 80mph. It's a nice left hander that exits out to a downhill. I'm taking my inside line, when both Josh Hayes and Tony Meiring go by me about 40 mph faster on the outside of the turn. I come out of the turn, grab fourth and roll in on to go down the hill to turn 3, which is a hairpin. I come over the crest and look down the hill. Those guys were leaving turn FOUR (the second hairpin) and heading up the hill to turn 5!

I just shook my head in amazement...Wow...

I get through the hairpins and head up the hill. Turns 5,6,7, when done right are one fluid motion...Then again, hippos swimming could be termed 'fluid motion'... In any case, I came up the hill, leaned the bike over into turn 7 (it's a left) and saw Tony dawdling around behind some slower riders. Aha! I'm gonna catch back up with Tony! I swear, he looked back at me and then *bam* went through turn 8 and 9 faster than I thought humanly possible! I tipped it into turn 8, and he was already through the bus stop and back onto the run to the front straight!

It was great scraping some of the rust off. I have to recalibrate my senses tho...After three years of riding an SV650, I was used to a certain weighty consideration of the ultimate attainment of top speed while proceeding down the front straight...Usually in the neighborhood of 125-130 mph. I would come onto the run to the front straight in second gear, roll the throttle on. Power would build till seven grand and then all hell would break loose! Front end would get light, back tire clawing and spinning as I would lean to the right...Third, fourth, fifth...I'd come onto the front straight at 150mph, and would usually roll out at about 170, before tipping the bike into turn 1.

The funny part is, I wouldn't be going any faster through turn 1 than I used to on my SV650. Sometimes slower! There's just some part of my brain that is putting the brakes on when I point the bike towards the end of a concrete wall at 150 or so mph.

In my last full session, I got down to 1:47 lap times. That's about four seconds slower than my average lap on my SV650 race bike, and six seconds slower than my best ever time. Shows what a year off and gaining about 20 pounds will do to your lap times...

As a fundraising event, the Seattle 100 was a great success. We had a goal of $50,000 and the total, after the donations and auction proceeds were tallied, reached $70,000. The event was called short due to rain, but the Q&A session with all the riders (Josh Hayes, Jason Pridmore, Tony Meiring, Jake Holden) and with Greg White of Speed Channel was fantastic. Lots of funny stories from those guys, and they all enjoyed beating up (verbally) on Greg White.

One thing for certain, I'm a sore pup this morning. But I'm really happy to have participated in this and helped raise money for a good cause.

Dino and I started out in the slower group. After the two warm up laps, Dino comes by at a *brisk* pace...A bit *too* brisk for the slower group. He got pulled off the track twice by the marshalls before getting bumped up to the faster group. Dino is the absolute monster at hanging off his bike. Wait till you see the pics!

BTW - Dino and I raised $3000 of the $70000 total. Not bad for two old dirt farmers from the Pacific Northwest!

So, any chance that we will see you two on Two Wheel Tuesday? Even a glimpse? Did you have numbers on your bikes so we can easily find 'em?

I know the way well my son.... No maps needed to the track or on the track.... If I can make it up there, can I use your bike??? If not, tell Velasco I need something from the stable.

I use to really like it in the rain. Sullivan, Pinkstaff, Zlock were tough guys on that track. Dam home field advantage (there and Portland). Beautiful tracks up there. Wish they weren't so far away.

Sullivan is the fucking Jeki Master at Pacific and Portland. Knows the track like noone else. At least he lost the record to a former flat track winner. Mitchell is just a kid, but really smart and fast.

And here's a Pacific Northwest Dirt Farmer, gettin in the dirt:

And here he is deciding whether or not he needs elbow pucks:

Dino did everything but fucking crawl *under* the bike going through the turns. He was the hanging off poster child, they must have had 20 shots of him posted up at the photographer's stand.

You guys missed a great day of riding! Like swft said, they raised WAY more money than expected and a great time was had by all except maybe the ones that fell down.
I found my favorite track so far...gonna' try out Pahrump and Thunderhill next month.
The 10 held the corners fine but it shook "like a dog shittin'peach seeds" from the chute till turn one. Kinda' (very)scary, Doesn't have that rock solid feel of the 12.
We (Dave Alexander) tightened up the suspension a little and it got even worse, so I guess it's time to do some homework on the minibike.
Swft put me up for the night to help make the trip easier on the pocketbook and even gave me a complimentory Kawi Mug.Thanks dude!
Next year we need to get more involved.

Oh! Almost forgot....I got to be Jason Pridmores' bitch!

Of the money I donated, $200 was in ZX10R ZONE.com's name. Hey, I know you are all a bunch of cheap bastards that would rather subsist on toe fungus scrapings than pay for two day old bread, but I didn't want to be TOO embarassed being associated with you. If anyone wants, I'll be happy to send them some toe fungus.

Fish, I can guarantee the 12 WILL do that. At Spokane raceway I ground the shit out of the alternator cover. After I got back home, I leaned the bike over to where the cover was about an inch off the floor and couldn't figure out how it could be leaned that far over without crashing!

Must be those "Dunslops"

Dino - When you leaned it over at home, you didn't have the suspension loaded. On the track, you have to factor in cornering force, braking force, etc. All that loads the suspension and squats the bike down like a shivering dog trying to shit a peach pit.
