Motorcycle Lift Table I'm shopping for a motorcycle lift table for home use and have narrowed it down to three in the following order:
Handy S.A.M. 1000
Direct Lift Pro-Cycle XLT
Lift-Buddy
Do any of you have experiences with these lifts? Pros? Cons? (I'm leaning towards the SAM1000...I like the rear drop-out feature...but check out the B.O.B 1500...WHOA!!!!!)
They're expensive, although if you look at a $500 helmet and add another $500 or more for other incidental accessories, fuzzy math $1500 (the approximate delivered price) is not that bad...especially if you like to work or tinker on your bike ALOT...and it'll save your back and make it more pleasant to work on it....and it'll last longer than three $500 helmets
Are there any 'deals' out there? What about a group buy? ____________ “We sleep safe in our beds because rough men

Tim, you get a bike yet?
Worm, the ProCycle one is nice.. not crazy about the diamondplate though.
Abit slippery when oil hits it.
I picked one up for a friend in Orlando a few months back. I will buy one when I get the floor space freed up.
For now Im using my el cheapo stand I found at some tool clearance tent.
$215 with tax. Not the greatest, but it works for now.

..easy fix with a strip of anti-skid material where the tire makes contact I suppose...man, I wish it had the drop-out like the SAM1000...anticipating full fendered rear tire removals one day ____________ “We sleep safe in our beds because rough men

what would raw materials cost assuming you have access to a welder and other various tools. From what I've seen the construction techniques are similar between most models.

I bought the Direct Lift Pro Cycle (from down by you wormie!). They are the best AND least expensive. They are made by the same guys who do the car lifts. The cylinder is huge. Locking feature is secure. Material for working surface & ramp is diamond plate, with black expoxy paint. Includes the wheel chock and ramp. You can't go wrong. Highly recommend it.

...after a few thoughts of fabrication, I think the XLT might do me well...I don't have a real need for the drop-out at the moment...could always have a drop-out plasma cut later, reinforce the cut-out plate with rods and tabs and floating hooks and fashion notches and indents on the table top so it drops in and....aaaackkk...but that's for later...the XLT is lookin' like the best option for price and availablitly the more I think about it....and the distributor is right up the road!...cool!...... ____________ “We sleep safe in our beds because rough men

wormie you woman (no offense ladies) - just use a swingarm stand when you want to pull the wheel . Ya ain't workin on a H-D ya know where the wheel weights 3 tons....

Well ok then. That definetly would merit considering the drop-out feature. Gettin that thing up in the air might require a mod to the air cylinder!

I've had a Handy lift for 5 years. No issues. The Procycle is a Handy knock-off. The lift buddy is a great alternative especially if you don't have air. Get any of them and you'll be happy as a pig in warm compost.

...that's freekin' funny, Stevo ...btw, I got an e-mail from the folks at ProCycle and they 'talked about' the drop-out feature...I hope they do it...I'll hold off until they do...I don't really need the table right just this minute...got front and rear pitbulls, front and rear Lockfart-P-lips, and my trusty Harbor Freight MC/ATV lift...I want to epoxy-seal the garage floor anyway before I introduce this heavy-ass table into it...which brings up another related topic...which sealant/paint/covering do you guys and gals use?

On the facilities I've set-up, I don't recall the brand of expoxy paint, but do remember that prep is the most important thing. After cleaning, we acid etch/wash, then bead blast the floor before putting on the sealant coat (before the paint). Last week we did our R&D area. The concrete was really porous and took 2 coats of sealer, and 3 coats of expoxy paint. But man it looks great! We added 4' high of polished diamond plate along all the walls as well. It almost looks too nice to work in!

I'v had a Handy Lift for 6 years and could'nt be happier. I've had bikes of all weights on it and it's solid ad a rock. Wouldn't be without one.
Don't know about the drop out feature though. Can't see much use for it.
The front wheel clamp is very usefull thought. Many ways to configure the lift. Price depends on how many extras you have one it. Also use it for snowmobiles and quads. Most bike shops i've been in use this lift. And for a good reason.

Mr Bryant.... how many "hot" tires get put on the epoxy finish?
My buddy has a 15,000 sq ft diesel truck shop that he researched all kinds of industrial floor coatings for. He laid out the big $$$ to get the best finish possible, even delayed opening so the product would have time to cure correctly.
In the end the first car that pulled in with hot tires and parked, ended up taking the finish right up.
If I were gonna do a floor, Ill get the concrete stain available at most pro painter stores. Seems to resist traffic pretty well as well as spills.
Prep time is 2-3 days.

TB - Funny you should ask that. I did a smokey on some at another R&D shop on their floor, and it just left the rubber. And they had that grit stuff in it for more "non-slip". It didn't peel up. And yea, it's definetly in prep & cure. The longer you can delay, the better. We've been down 5 days. Which has been a blessing because we painted all the walls and equipment also. Looks fantastic!
