Question about the exhaust mod

Ok so im sick and tired of wating for my muzzy pipe.....been 2 mounths......anyway i took an air hammer to the cat....but i also have a power commander (running the stock bike map)....i have been getting some wicked back fires and pops.....My question is: Am i hurting the bike in anyway from the backfires....it seems to only do it on decel.....not many pops.....just a bike BOOM..and not everytime.....Thanks for the answers in advance....(i know there are some bike gods on here. so i hope 1 of them will respond with a real answer and not flame me for being ignorant).....

I dunno what's up with mine. Did the cat mod, drilled three 1" holes in the baffle and it STOPPED popping on decel. No other mods. Makes a nice raspy noise now too. I only put a 2" hole through the center of the cat, could that explain something? It's ok to flame ME for being ignorant. I forgive myself.

I'd be looking for a leak around the mid pipe connections, Decel backfire is usually caused by fresh air being sucked in around a mating surface, Just knocking out the cat. will not cause these symptoms.

That's because Microns suck

air in around the junctions.

The pop comes from a lean condition and a closed throttle . Get a PC3 and a map made for YOUR bike .

Why aren't the exhaust experts chiming in on this ?

...they have no time to read stuff like this...besides, lots of other experts here who can answer simple stuff like that...the exhaust experts are probably they're busy working 24/7 as you requested so that they can get pipes out...

The popping on decel is caused by the KLEEN system exhaust air injection. If you block them off with vacuum caps or block-off plates (cleaner) the problem will go away (or at least subside considerably).

My ZX-12 had a custom map made on a dyno and it popped when I shut the throttle from high revs. Never worried about it myself. I just wished it would have shot out some cool flames!!! That would rule!!!
