I let the 10R eat at Road Atlanta

Ran Road Atlanta yesterday. Had an absolute blast. I am a pretty experienced mountain, curvy rider. However this was my first actual track day.

I ran a good time my first session out. Got better and better as the day went on. Finally finished up with a 1.46 lap time. Not bad for a newbie. It was good enough for the advanced class. I hit 176mph (indicated) on the speedo before letting out at the Kink on the backstretch. If you have big enough balls you could pull 185mph through to the end of the backstretch. Pulled wheelies through Suzuki bridge and usually tripple wheelied on wheelie hill and out of turn 7 onto the back stretch. The control riders were just shaking there heads at me trying to keep that front wheel down. It was an absolute blast.

P.S. Word to the wise. If you do take you 10 to a track day expect for everyone to want a piece of you. There were like 3-4 04 R1's, but I had the first and only 10R there. Everyone wanted a piece and I gladly handed them some every lap. Of course I got it handed back by the control riders under braking.

My buddies 04 R1 was there as well. Bike had full graves system, PC, gearing, Traction Forks, and Penske rear fully setup. I was on his butt the entire session until he dumped oil all over me out the exhaust. Unfortunately his day was over!! Another R1 bites it and he broke it in correctly too. Whats the deallllll!!!

Sounds like good, clean fun. I did the Schwantz school at RA last week; they wouldn't allow students' non-Suzuki bikes, so my 10R stayed home and I used one of their '04 Gixxer 600s. My best time was in the low 1:50s, which I was happy with given my unfamiliarity with the lack of mid range on the school bike. Just when you think you're tearing the track up, some wiseass points out that Mladin does 1:23s there.

We had a guy come in with us. Ran a 1.31 and was fastest of the day. He has no fear factor and is just balls out everywhere. Unbelievable.

1:31 is hell for fast at RA. I believe that Kevin Schwantz' best on a stock Gixxer 1000 is mid 1:30s.

I don't know if we're just "bench-racing" here or what, but if he ran faster than Kevin, and within 8 seconds of Mat, then he needs to contact me....
