...guess again...some higher ups and commander cars (these cops are usually in civilian suits because they assume more of an administrative role with the cities and counties ie. mixing up with city politicians, planners,etc...although they're still very much cops through and through and will tell you so) have full luxo-rigs with cd players, luxo-interiors, power-everything, regular paint, and 'mag wheels' or 'beauty' hub caps...and although you don't readily see it, they also have full police radio capabilities and lights and sirens...and guns in locked racks or boxes...some special detail units have these cars, too...or other vehicles that perhaps I shouldn't mention

...so...how do you spot a 'civilian' cop car?...easy...do something very foolish in front 'grandpa's Forrest Green Crown Vic' and you could have all kinds of black&white marked units on your tail ASAP LIKE RIGHT NOW...why?...cuz' its bad form to keep the commanders waiting...and 'grandpa' will personaly write you a ticket or arrest you himself!

Yes, but they still have the markings of the fleet cars - the 'police Interceptor' badge, dual exhaust without 'LX' markings, etc. If they have aluminum wheels, OK.

This is true in AZ and IL - the two states I spend the most time in. I can easily 'make' a 'shirt' in a plain car, simply by the details of the car.

Now, I heard that Massachusetts gives their 'shirts' Continentals, and you can 'make' them with similar clues.

Basically, it's any car that is associated with any kind of fleet operations that gets me looking to see if it may be a cop - Intrepids, Continentals, CVs, Impalas.

The ones that surprise me are the Tahoes and Mustangs. But, since I never speed, (at least in the CV), I'm good...

I've noticed that recently (last 2 or 3 years) most officers (marked and unmarked) that I come across are fairly lenient on bikes. Most of the time I get a "flash of the lights" or "blip of the sirine" if I'm going a little too fast - no chasing. This is actually a cool tactic, as I slow my ass down ASAP . When I was younger, a cop pulling out (when I was bike ridden) did NOT mean I would slow down/stop - I'd gas it and burn ass out of there. Now (older and wiser) I'm not sure I'd do that, but the light or sirine blip accomplish the goal of slowing me down without the hassle of a chase. Cudos to the officers and troopers that use that tactic. Too many bikers die in pointless chases each year.
