Why is the key so big?
I wonder why the key for the ZX 10 is so big? I had to hack off a good 1/4 of it when I installed my Scotts damper. Geeeeze with all this weight cutting ideas, that is weird as my 12 R key is 1/2 the weight!?!?!?

I heard it was b/c kawi installed some kind of security feature/device in it that will not allow another key that might have been copied or cut off the original to start the bike if tried........thats what the shop owner told me, so he could be full of it, but thats what i was told......

that would be correct runninghorn, but not for us or canadian models. the key could just be a remnant of that immobilizer system tho.

The US spec keys do not have an immobilizer. I have two copies made due to the scotts.

...maybe it cuz' the bike's so small...you should see the key to the KTM 625 SXC I once had...now THAT'S a teeny-tiny ignition key!

I think when they were done the bike was way too light so they had to add a little extra weight to try and keep the front wheel down

Um guys. Turn your SCOTTS damper 180 degrees in the mount. It will work just the same and you will not have to mod your key. My buddy did that on his 9R and works like a charm.

I think Muzzy sells a key that is 10 lbs lighter and a foot shorter. My key has double duty. I also use it to paddle my canoe
