PPG color codes/percentages for Pearl Blazing Orange (470)
Has anyone on this forum had a PPG distributor (or competitor) blend paint in attempt to match Pearl Blazing Orange? I've been told that factory Kawasaki code for Pearl Blazing Orange is 470 (i.e. Lime Green is 7F); my local distributor has offered to match the paint; the downside of course is time and accuracy. I'm hopeful someone has already traveled down this road? If so, would you mind posting your results/information?

Just went to an authorized PPG products distributor and they are trying to match the orange right now. Funny thing is they weren't able to get a PPG paint code after I gave them the Kawasaki code and color name. They even called PPG corporate and they weren't able to come up with anything. I'll let you know how it comes out. Only problem is it looks like its a three stage job (base, pearl, clear) which means its going to be a few more bucks.
Have you had any more luck?

I have worked in the Autobody field a long time, and have learned this. All the major manu.(kawasaki, suzuki etc) only sell there paint formulas to Color Rite, they have exclusive rights to the actual formulas which even through them will not always match. There are so many factors when spraying paint that it makes it almost impossible to spray one panel seerate and get it to match the rest. Humidity, temp., air pressure ect. will all play a role in changing color. You can paint one day with a color, then use the same paint from the same batch the next day and they will look different to a trained eye. The only solution to the obvious problem with the orange is to spray all the panels at the same time and clear all together. I have the blue, and can notice slight variations in color but it is very slight, and most can not notice it. The Orange is a more sensitive color, therefore difference look drastic... hope this helps a little....

I was considering plastic welding the holes that are in the rear undertail tray, fill them in, and then paint it, would it be possible to ship it back to whereever Kawasaki does their painting to get them to paint it for me?

One other question Skully, ive always contemplated opening an Autobody shop, are they as profitable as alot appear?

I dont think so...Find a good shop near you and talk to them about it....You can buy the paint online @ Color Rite.... www.color-rite.com I hope I can be off help

Bad News
Thanks for the info. Just got pack from the PPG place and they were able to come close but not close enough. The color seemed right but they couldn't get the pearl right. It almost looked like a metal flake instead of a pearl. Also talked to the guy about how much it would cost to get a good shop to paint some panels and it was pretty expensive. Looks like I will buying some cans from color-rite. Wish me luck.  I figure if it gets messed up I can always buy replacement parts.

Unfortunately the mixture from Color-Rite was off as well, prior to starting the project I purchased a quart of Blazing Pearl Orange (470) - Color Rite Top/Base: 3420/1420; not only was blending imprecise, the pearl content was no where near the factory color. For the record, we also tried Dupont's Chromovision and PPG's Prophet system; Prophet actually provided the best automated result; alas the pearl became the biggest hurdle in matching (again).
Has anyone come up with a PPG Deltron 2000 or similar code/label match (paint codes/percentages) that comes close to the original color? We've since sprayed the panels due to time constraints; however I certainly would like to have the information available.

You can definitely see the difference in the hue, our color matching is close to the factory; however the pearl is not entirely acceptable. Although it's a race bike, you've seen my past creations and I'm very particular of their completion.

Not in mine you can't as it is nearly factory hue ( 1 more coat may have had it perfect).........in pics theres no way to decern the 'hue' diff but in person its possible. If your painting the bike complete (all the bodywork sans tank) then theres nothing to match really.

The only part we didn't paint was the tank, I prefer to retain the factory finishes on fuel tanks.

Just for reference, the "Pearl Blazing Orange" Paint Formula is Global Refinishing (PPG/Deltron/Platinum Dealer) Paint Code #907328.
That particular code is only available from Platinum PPG dealers.

Here's the situation, the factory 470 is a three stage process, base color coat, pearl coat and clear coat. Color-Rite carries all three stages, in speaking with a PPG representative and they provided the Global/PPG code that matches the "Pearl Blazing Orange". That said, I'm speaking with a PPG Platinum dealer in person today in search of further information, as I'm not 100% happy with my first application.

appreciate the info, will wait until you are finished and have all the stuff done before i start plastic welding on mine
