ECU Variants and Powercommanders A question for our racers, XL, and aftermarket manufacturers.
XL acknowledged what was going to come out anyway - different part numbers for California model ECUs.
What does the standard Powercommander do with the fuel map designed for a so-called 49-state bike (I'm in AZ and got a Cali model) when installed over a Cali-model ECU?
Do we need different maps for the two variants? Can we simply scale every point of the map by some amount, or is it possible to read or obtain from Kawasaki the California map so we can determine what to do to a map for a 49-state bike?
Does the spark-timing map differ between the two variants? Can every difference Kawasaki made between the two models be corrected with the PC?
Is this a possible explanation for some of the lower dyno numbers we've been reading of from some user's bikes?

How the hell do I know?
I know that when the updated ECU came out on the 12's, it was reported to NEED the year specific pc3-r.
I think that they say that the MAPS will not be right: +5 will not be the same, etc.
This is NOT a problem if you are going to get a CUSTOM map built and not use their 'standard' ones. At times, they will not even release a pc until THEY can build some maps. They even put the word out to come to Vegas for a free mapping pc3 session.

... all zx12R power commanders will work on all years of ZX-12R... you just need to load the appropriate map into it.. The part #'s are used for inventory purposes and to make sure the user gets the correct base map loaded in the PC (incase they dont load in their own.. but who wouldnt??)
What you are talking about is totally unrelated to the question about the ecu, methinks
