1000 Miles: Second Oil Change and Miscellania

So I give the bike it's second oil change today - you may remember I'm on a 200, 1000, 1800, (switch to synth) 5500 schedule.

Taking just the left side of the fairing lower off worked out well, but there are those funky mushroom fasteners to take off. I was pretty shocked at how many stones I'd picked up from the front wheel in 1000 miles. It gave me a good chance to clean the lowers well, too.

This time, I got no drips on the headers, whoo-hoo! The oil itself was clearly carrying break-in metal, and it was slightly darker than the first oil change.

I then cleaned up the surfaces everywhere - I'm gettting a lot of dust in all the nooks and crannies under the bodywork, and I can smell it heating when I'm idling at a traffic light.

I cleaned the stock Cosmoline off the chain with turpentine (no kerosene in my garage), and am about to go heat and lube it.

1000 miles...

I'll be doin the 600 mile service at the stealership on Tuesday - then I can actually ride this thing.

I'm thinkin bout changing the oil at 1k miles again and then switch to semi-synthetic at 2k (motul 5100) - I'll be doing those myself.

Lowers are comin off tonight for a general inspection.

I ended up dropping both sides of the lowers rather than muck about with those fasteners. I think it's easier and quicker.

I did it that way the first time, and I will agree.
