clutch question
After racing the 12 last night, the bike creeps forward with clutch in.I tried to adjust it,but still creeps.I have had this happen before, but only when the clutch was just put in.It doesn't slip or anything, just creeps, and you have to kill the bike to get it in nuetral, suggestions?

normal shit...plates/fibers are still tight and need to be worked in.
After a handfull of nice hard launches (or slip the clutch like a champ from a stop anywhere) itll loosen itself up.
Freaked me out the first time I had that happen too...although I took the clutch apart about a dozen times before someone told me it was normal
although if it DOESNT work itself out within a few passes...your stack height is too tall.

6 passes last night,a few street rides before, plenty of time, but right when I put this clutch in,I had to really burn it to stop creeping.

Mine done that and my rod was worn. Think it was due to the stk height being a little low. Gonna add a 1.5mm steel.

I don't know what to do,maybe my springs are weak, they have never been replaced. On the last 2 runs last night, the bike had to be turned off to put it in nuetral, also the reason we think my airshifter did not always hit the shifts, but that's just a theory for now.

Did you try giving yourself a bit less freeplay in the clutch lever? How much freeplay are you running right now?

Sound like BURNT clutches to me.
Warped steel and /or worn fibers.
I bet you had your best 60' too , right?
Better open it up for a look.

it aint the springs...or warped plates..if it were it would make itself VERY evident by slipping like a champ at WOT in higher rpms.

we had to tighten it a little each time(take out the play)just so it would stop creeping forward. This clutch has no abuse on it really, and it's got all the oil mods done too, just stock basket, right when the bike came out of the shop,it had a new set of steels and frictions.I remeber that some of the steels were the thicker kind mixed w/stock.The clutch always had a slight creep to it,but since last night,it's worse.I have had 2 12's now and know when the clutches are wearing, this is different, and since the motor has been re-done,these were the only real passes on the bike.(bike was finished in march of this year, about the time of my accident on the turbo bike),the reason why it hasn't been ridden.

Check for grooves on the clutch basket tangs too. The plates can get hung up on them giving the effect of too much stack height and cause the clutch to drag.

ie.....Warped steels added to your stack height. You need some more 2.0's. Go ahead and order a billet basket while you are at it.

How was the clutch before you went to the track?
If you didn't just change something, there is no reason for
stack height to change except burnt or warp steels.
Drag racing a 12 can be very hard on clutches. I have ruined a
pack in one day at the track, Hot lapping is forbid.

It creeped before we ran thr bike,it just got worse each time. The way the bike was launched the steels and plates should be fine, from experience I know this, just don't know if the thick and thin plates mixed makes a difference, you know how it is,one dealer has only 6 regular steels in stock,so you pick those up and call the next dealer and pick up the other ones that happen to be thicker,in my case that's what I did.

sounds like your clutch release rod and lever is worn out and about to pop which causes a new trick............how about you cant get the bike out of gear at all after a high speed pass and it keeps pushing you as you try and brake as the end of the track is coming quick.....?!?!?! I had that happen and that is not fun!!! Don't ride it anymore this way as you are asking for a situation to occur....Just friendly advise

dont remove an entire steel...replace it with a 1.6mm steel (assuming you used all 2.0mms when you rebuilt it.

my bike will creep when a steel is black and warped; hard to hold at stage, and then slips when underway. Bitch to get the steel out when its that warped.

yeah, you mentioned springs and I don't think it's your springs at all.
Like you and YCIS said, I usually get the 'creeping' when an ALL NEW clutch pack is put in, but, after a few miles, it clears out.
Your current problems sure sounds like one or more warped steels making the stack height too much. (since you said you can't adjust it out)
Sounds like you need to get inside there man......

Like I said,it creeped right when it came out of the shop,I had dropped off 2 different sizes of plates off before the bike was finished, ever since I got it back,it hung or creeped a little. Also I remember it was very hard to push around w/it in gear when the clutch was pulled in,all w/ no ride time on the bike. It's hard to tell if the plates are bent by looking, they are usually a bitch to take out if they are though. It wasn't launched badly, just becuase it went 1.44 60's a few times,no hotlaps either,it's a brand new clutch w/a stock outer basket, which would probably break if it was abused. It could be my inner hub,I remember seeing grooves and having to force out plates that were snagged before.

Easiest way ive found to find warped steels is to make a stack of all steel plates in your hand (no fibers) begin to twist some of them around..it should be painfully obvious which plates are warped if any.

sometimes a new clutch will stick, but it clears within a few miles or launches. If the problem continues something is wrong. i can't explain why
but i have burnt a steel within a few passes. When you keep running a clutch with a problem it ALWAYS gets worst.
