NHRA Jr. Dragracers
I know that this has nothing to do with dragbikes, but I just wanted to talk about it. I had a chance to watch the Jr. Dragracers at Sac Raceway on Saturday. They raced just before we did at the track. For those of you who don't know about it, they race the 1/8th mile and race in two categories: 8-12 year olds & 13-16 year olds.
I got a chance to talk to a few of them, and it was a total kick hearing the absolute enthusiasm they have for the sport. I especially liked talking to one of the girls named Ashley. I didn't catch her age, but she couldn't have been more than 12 years old. Her car is called "Smokin' Ash." She told me that they wanted to call it "Haulin' Ash," but it got vetoed.  She talked just like any one of my other racing buddies. She spent a few minutes talking about she and her dad set up the car for the Denver track altitudes. She even flipped her car in Palmdale a couple of weeks back and still came back to race this week. I can only dream of having a kind into racing as much as she is.
What's funny is that every last one of them rolled their eyes when you mentioned the TV Disney movie about the female Jr. dragracer. My favorite quote from one of them, "That movie was crap. Nobody broke out in the movie. It was so not real."
Every once in a while you meet a group of kids that renew your hope for the future of the world. I was lucky enough to meet a great bunch of them this weekend.
