I have seen similar from heat cause by lots of dyno runs, with burned out packing, Seen it as a result of completing the DAytona 200 (that race eats Carbon cans) and the other cases I have seen similar was when someone made the mistake of picking up on the can when trying to move the bike sideways or putting it on a bike stand.

Had the same thing happen to a Yosh CF can. Never again will I own a Carbon Fiber cannister. They just don't hold up to heat!

The CarbonFiber becomes brittle in time due to the heat!!!...Thats why Muzzy puts the disclaimer in with the pipe...
So, I asked Muzzy to make a black aluminum canister for those of us that like the dark can but they ignored me!!!...Ohh well what can you do...
I bought an Akrapovic for my 2002 instead!!!
