TFA shatters previous PR

I raced yesterday in Sacramento as a tune-up for the NHRA Div. 7 race next weekend. Man, they really prep the track for those divisional races. That track was smoother than I had every seen it. Long story short, I lost in the first round with a double breakout. (Dammit, it felt fast, but I wasn't about to let the other person get to the line first.) Well...that's racing.

Anyway, it wasn't all bad. I finally figured out my incosistent bogging problem. I'll explain later if anyone wants to hear it. Plus, the 2-step is an absolute dream. I don't care what you guys say. It totally helps, and I'm glad I kicked down the duckets to buy it.

It turned out that the first qualifying run of the day would be my best pass ever:

R/T: .460 (I still need to work on this.)
60ft: 1.568
330ft: 4.117
1/8mi: 6.233 @ 116.770 mph
1000ft: 8.065

1/4mi: 9.651 @ 142.851 mph!!!

Not to shabby for a member of TFA.

What's cool is that the run I did in the eliminations looked like this:

R/T: .505 (yeah, I'm still pissed about that)
60ft: 1.554
330ft: 4.074
1/8mi: 6.201 @ 115.164 mph
1000ft: 8.060
1/4mi: 9.691 @ 132.330 mph

I made the mistake of dialing a soft 9.81 thinking that I could back it in. I got off of it right after I passed her and still ran that! I probably would have beat my PR again if I would have stayed on it.

Either way, I think that I finally have my setup figured out on this track. I want that damn Wally trophy. Now, it's just a matter of beating the gunslingers in the divisional race.

Ok dude you, little advice if you want it or not. you were running a 9.65, and you dialed a 9.81???? No No No, if you wanted to buffer it alittle you should have dialed a 9.70. but I know a lot of people that race buffer their times. but It is so hard to judge where you are at and when to let off... I dial what I think I will run and make them beat me on the tree... let them breakout all day long or redlight trying to beat you! but that is just a little advice from me take it or leave it! but on to your runs!!!! Congrats!!!! You are really getting that thing to come around!!! Keep up the good work and take it a day at a time and when you win that Wally I want to see pictures!!!

Thanks for the advice, Mike. I really appreciate it. The reason I dialed the 9.81 is that I totally got confused because on my other qual pass, I bogged and ran a 10.035 @ 142.186 mph. I looked at the splits after the 60 ft, and noticed that they were slower too. Plus, it was getting hotter, so I split the difference and came up with a 9.81. Another learning experience. Now that I have the bogging figured out, I'm pretty sure that I can run 9.65's all day with the 2-step.

If I win the Wally, you bet your ass, I'm gonna be posting pics all over the place. It may not happen this year, but when it does...

Chris,

I wired the 2-step is into my clutch switch. Yes, that same switch that's connected to your ignition that doesn't let you start the bike if you're in gear without having your clutch pulled in. If you look under your clutch handle, you'll notice that there's a switch there with 3 wires. With the clutch pulled in, the 2-step is activated and limits your rpm at whatever you set it at. (for me 9500 rpm worked just peachy) When you let go of the clutch, the 2-step turns off and the stock rev limiter is then in charge again. By the way, wiring it like this disables that little idiot proofing. It'll let you start it in gear with the clutch engaged.

Ooh, I almost forgot this part: What's cool is that with the 2-step set at 9500 rpm, I noticed that my tach showed right around 10K rpm while on the limiter. So, I guess the boys here were right about the tach being off. Seeing that showed me that I should shift at 12K rpm (indicated) instead of 11.5K rpm (indicated) like I was doing before. That is probably another reason I'm gettin' a better ET.
