Rod bearings
Well this is the 3rd time the rod bearing has gone out in the same zx12 in Hawaii. The bike is using Moltuel 20/50 full syn oil. What type of oil are you all using that have had rod bearings go bad?

Have you checked your Oil Pressure? do you ride alot of wheelies? or is this a drag machine? do you use bars? or not?

He rides a little on the street but mostly drags it and no wheeliers here. We had another one go down for a rod bearing on the dyno last week. Both are 00 12's.

Gotta be an oiling or bearing clearance problem...
I ran a 9.70 on a stock motor bike...put it in the trailer took it home...took the top-end off (for 1270 kit) and one of the rods was tight enough that even with the piston on it...it stayed up in the air...FREEEKED me out...HAD to be CLOSE to "killing the bearing" when I ran the 9.70...
THAT bike had gas in the oil at one time so...I'm SURE that's what caused the problem in THAT motor...
I also believe that the MOTUL oil is what kept the bearing from spinningm in the rod

just a thought,........and perhaps a chance as a reminder for others to NOT fill the oil too high in the window!
Too much oil could cause windage, or worse, that the crank actually touches the oil, then you're going to get air bubbles in your oil (cavitation), and that would certainly cause you problems.
....just a warning.

Plastigage the bearings next time, and see what the actual clearances are set. Was it the same #rod bearing?!
