Question for dragracers(w/crash experience)

I have been removing(w/one arm)damaged parts, and other things to be changed on my blackbird. One thing for sure, the shock needs to be changed, the one it has is stiff, and does not transfer weight, this bike has a 4inch rake(that is, 4 inches longer at the wheelbase from the rake). The bike had strange handling and feedback when it was under boost. The front end felt like it would't compress,it felt bumby,on the gas.I don't want to climb on this thing and have the same shit happen again, the bike was originally set up w/a strut and wheely bars.I put a shock on it and lowered the bike in the rear, not the front, the rake makes it low.I keep trying to remember what happened going through the traps, just felt like the bike was pulling pretty good, but reving too fast at the end of each gear, last gear it popped the limiter, then pitched over-fast,I hit the ground so fast that I couldn't tell there was gonna be a problem.I need to know if anyone could point me in the right direction to set this bike up to where it can be controled, was suspension the problem? They say it spun quite a ways from the 8th,nearly to the traps, would't I notice if it was getting out of shape? It was going strait as an arrow, then crash-too many un-answered questions,I wish someone had a video of it that night, there were plenty of people there.

Dude, you said it, at the top of the gears it was revving too quick. tire spin was your problem. I saw with my own two eyes the 100 ft stripe where it spun and you washed out.....quit trying to find something thats not there. Get you a good drag shock and set that bitch up with an mcr2. Ennis was real slippery that night, it was just luck...er unluck

I just crashed in the end of January myself. I had the same doubting feelings afterward. Like you my tire slipped really bad, but unlike you, I highsided. I kept wondering if there was anything I could have done to prevent it. I finally just stopped thinking about it. Shit happens, and on the dragstrip, shit happens faster. You just hit a bad patch of slippery track. Let it go. Thinking about it too much will just make you want to quit. The only way to get over it is to get back on that bike and make some passes down the strip.

Heal up and get back out there!

I agree with slick track. I was there on a stock (motor) ZX12, in the left lane, and was unable to control spin from the start all the way through. I had to get off the throttle for control. The right lane was bad also, but not quite so much as the left.

if you guys are racing at a track where you can spin half way down or further, i would find a different track or tell them to prep it better or you won't be back. PERIOD

I had the tire spin on me on john's bike once THROUGH THE TRAPS!!!
Could have been fluid on the track also...

If there are cars running at the track...it could be condensation build up from running A/Cs or something. Maybe even antifreeze getting pushed out of a hose at the big end of the track.
Tuesday night, a seasoned rider went down at the starting line at our track because some car "leaked" some fluid.

INTRA - you don't have one those funky "raked trees" do you? Where the head angle is stock, but the fork is raked in the triple clamp? Those things effectively eliminate your rake, and can make the bike handle terribly, kinda like you describe. Heal fast.

Compu Trac dude. Have em check to make sure its all straight. Maybe MCIntosh raked it after lunch on a Friday. You prolly just hit a wet spot ( ) and it let go. Pays to check it out though. Then put a Penske or Hyper pro on it and make some EASY first passes so you get used to it and check its stability up top. Also you may be someone else to crash test dummy it for ya since your already banged up. Get Nick to do it!

That shit would be P I M P! with a extended tail like Stotz's ride! Black birds are pretty cool rides. I am suprised more people don't build em up.

Nick, when you are settin his up, make sure you get that rainbow sticker on the tail so everyone knows the secret!

I was at the track (Tx Motorplex) again on 4 April to make runs for a NHRA liscense. The track was so slick at about 60' that an air shifter wouldn't work. As a result, I couldn't make a sub 10 second run. The closest I got was a 10.23. The track seems to work ok for cars, but not for the small track a motorcycle makes. I'm going to find another track to make my liscense runs on.

Yea....Nick and stacy get hot fast. I think its funny. Birdman says they went 5.90 124mph @ kdale, and went back on fri, only busting off 6.1s at best with Stacy on it. I thought there bike was 60inch with a motor and wet progressive? I let them WATCH me go 6.20 @ 120 on my bike stock motor, stock wheelbase I wiegh 200....I know he will get up at me talking racing for big money some sort of cash that I dont make in a 2 week span. Come on now....I was just razzin around with them last week and they were dicks. If you are fast you are, but from what Ive seen are not, so the least they can do is be cool to other people. My friends have come up and complimented their bike and they are dicks.....Go fast, then be a dick....

I saw it going like 165mph at the shootout. Not sure if that was muscle or dope but I hope it was muscle considering everything thats in it. Stacy is a ridin MOFO to. I hate that shit about fast guys to. They either wanna talk shit or just be a dick in general. AA has always been ok around me. Quick Time guys were really friendly to. Lots of cock suckers out there though. Cocky bastards. I could be rollin to if I had the green but....
