CLUTCH SLIP, HELP PLEASE!
Went to the track at the weekend and the clutch was slipping. Before I went I put in a new clutch pack (steels and frictions). When I stripped the clutch out I noticed that the steels and frictions were still in good shape but the hub was in very poor condition. It had deep indentations all around the entire hub caused by the steels. The basket had the same signs of wear as well. Also the clutch arm that goes inside the clutch case and locates on the puller rod had two large chips out of it. Am I right in thinking that this will cause the clutch to slip?.
Cheers guys

Sounds like you may have the stack height wrong. Either that or you never adjusted the slack on the adjuster at the clutch cover. No reason for a NEW clutch to slip. Which steels did you reinstall?? 1.4, 1.6, or 2.0's ??
Any Muzzy clutch pieces??

I have just replaced the hub and basket this morning and I'm waiting for a new clutch arm to arrive from my friend. The hub and basket I just fitted have only 3k miles on them and are in very good condition. When I get some cash I will send off the badly worn basket to Falicon and get a billett one.
When you get them billet clutch arms made let me know.

Kawachan,
I have the Muzzy 2.00m steels and I am pretty sure the adjustment is correct.

Which springs are you using? Did you get a chance to check their length for wear?

As long as you use 2mm steels you should be okay....thats weird....do you still have the load spring in the back of the stack?

oldkawboy,
I'm using the 6R springs (allmost new).

Yes I'm still using the load spring at the back.
I'm pretty sure the worn hub would have caused the slipping. I know Bergie once posted about this on another clutch thread and even posted pics of his worn hub and said why this would cause slipping. Anyway when I get the new clutch arm (hopefully tomorrow) I will be able to let you know. If after all that the clutch is still slipping then I really will be worried.

steels have a tendency to warp, causing clutch chatter

Up at the clutch lever, are you sure that it was letting the clutch fully seat?
Using that thumb-wheel, or the 2 nuts near the clutch cover might let you be *certain* that the plates are indeed being allowed to fully seat.
Of course you know, once a set of fibers are glazed,.....they're almost useless. (unless you want to try sanding them!)
