valve lapping overkill question...

got all my valves lapped with coarse then fine compound, wondering if it would be worth trying something more fine? i got some dremel polishing compound that i could use, or am i beating a dead horse here? i got another week until my block is back so i'm trying to fill some time. already lapped the head with 400 then 600 last time it was apart, this time i just had to hit it with 600 to clean it up.

did some googling, looks like the "fine" compound i bought is only 220 grit. i think i'll touch it with some 320 grit and call it a day.

YES. that, and as well, you don't want a seat that is too wide as well. going nuts and shooting past the .045-.055" or so most seats reside at leads to a bad day.

you can lap most times with fine grit just to clean the mating surfaces up and call it a day.

magic marker is good in a pinch but i have definitely found it'll smear sometimes or not quite "act right".. machinist dye is the greatest thing ever.

very thin, dries fast, gives a solidly defined line and theres no guessing as to if the mark is true.

post some pics!! always love to see an engine build
