zx12 crank swap?
Hey, yall. Friend has an 00 that needs a crank but haven't been able to locate anything. Found some 02 cranks but I'm not sure if it'll work. I'm pretty sure the flywheels are different but was hoping I could use the same stator since I don't have any of the later model stators laying around. ?

its different but it will work. i finished an 02 cases, 01 crank build recently for my bike and just need to get the stand alone figured out before i fire it up.

Ahh. Any opinions on 1270 vs. 1287 piston kits? Gonna build a stroker. May go with APE's 139something kit. Not gonna be a daily driver. Probably going with 4.6 stroke but I'm open for suggestions. Definitely new or Carillo rods, ported head, cams.

1287 Good strong motor engine, not the best for spray for head gasket reasons.
1270 can't go wrong, very solid.
Stroke either.

you can spray the 1287, but I wouldnt go promod huge with it...
when the block is done ask for the bottom of the bore to not be chamfered like they usually do

More drama. Nother 00 12 has a spun main bearing so it needs cases. Are all year cases interchangeable? Found an 02 for a decent price that I think I can split up for 2 00s.
Does the chamfer weaken the block? Saw your post on drilling the later model head. Good to know.

yes. 02 has a bigger oil pump. no issues with trans ect
just better skirt support. you pull the pistons out of the bore so much with the stroker

Be prepared you MAY need 24v starting if you go 1287 or larger.
some people get away with a bigger battery , but don't count on it.
