- Racheal's Crash, Loring 2009 - Well, it's been long enough that we feel comfortable posting the video. As many of you know, she had a spill after a 211 mph pass:
There were gusty crosswinds that day, and this was her first pass of the day. She got on the brakes too hard due to being uncomfortable with the sudden crosswinds. The front tire was hazing the pavement for some time, and it finally let go on a tar snake. Crash speed was estimated to be between 150-180 mph. The bike slid for around 1300'.
She had made much faster passes the day prior, as fast as 228 mph. If you watch carefully you can see the bike moving around, due to wind, as she approaches the camera. It leans to the side right before the smoke appears from the front tire. Whether the tilit was due to the winds, or the front end washing out, it is hard to say. Either way, there are some lessons to be learned here. Being smooth and controlled when startled is something that only comes with experiencing the uncomfortable. She had 21 passes over 200 mph on the bike prior to this spill.
The Limestone EMT's took this video, and they performed admirably afterward.

Bike damage could have been worse (pics taken when we got home from the event):
Everything seems pretty straight, but we'll likely take it to GMD Computrack. Right now it is just a rolling chassis, with a new Knecum motor sitting on the floor next to it.

The stretch panels on the inside of the arms burned through on her Joe Rocket leathers:
"That's gonna leave a mark!"
Some permanent scarring, obviously...but mostly healed now.

Pre-crash pics...these were taken at Maxton:
And from Loring, the day before the crash:
The bike still had a lot of unused potential. Her best pass at Maxton was 211 mph, but we weren't even close to using the full power on hand. With some work I am sure we will get it back in shape....and then some.
