Hey Dennis,
You`re doing pretty good for a single/sudo multi stage lockup, especially for as little time you`ve had with it....I respect you for tuning it pretty much yourself with just a little help from others.....
Throwing out the lever puts more on a clutch tuner...Clutching it out puts more on the rider`s ability to be good with a "clutch hand"....Two different critters....It`s fun to feel the clutch do it`s thing when you throw it out.... And it`s satisfying to know YOU made the clutch do it`s thing when you did with a good "clutch hand"....
Keep plugging away at it Dennis, you are on the edge...I wish I had a logger so I knew how much mine spiked on the leave to know how close you are with that setup....You are just so light that no matter how far over the tank you get it won`t matter.....
See ya.....

my stupidity called it a slider. it slipps so can i call it a slipper also?
kz what does oil have to do with it on the second pass spike? would less oil make it slip less?
i was using a oil can between rounds and the only thing i can think of is time between rounds made it act better. but i also learned to back out of it just a little bit and that way i made a 4.11 330 lifting off a tad.

it looks like after the spike in the second run it bogged bad when the arms started locking in, so i think it needed more oil. i doubt a squirt can is going to get all the plates with a billet basket.
first pass looked pretty good. the hardware springs were ok for 1 run and you used up most of the oil on the first run, so spike on the second from the springs not staying up? and then bog without oil.

my best guess at what happened

scott the low rpm enguagement rpm is cause i could not stay in the throttle. when i hear and feal the bike launch with the high rpm launch i know when i feal and hear the arms starting to lock it up i lift off the throttle so the front does not stand up real bad.(my licence plate on the second run with the low point you can see on my log still threw the front up hard and had the licence plate get hit by the rear and mess it up again.

well my cr500 just donated its 6 clutch springs. .075 gets them close to 142lb
here we go. this will prove or dis prove my cheep spring theory fading out with heat.
i will of course take all my hand clutch stuff if all else fails.

it is set up as it was lb wise from the numidia pass of a 1.638 60ft and 4.08 330ft times.

i just want to see if it will do the same thing or close to the same thing for two to three runs.

then sadly i am thinking the season is all but over. no car again. for sure next year for the duster or someone is in big trouble.

Dennis are you measuring the spring pressures, at the installed height, and throughout the range on these various springs?

If not...you are just shooting in the dark....which can be fun, be frustrating...

I sold my CR500 about 5 years ago....wish I hadn't.

Man if you can find a set that will at least stay consistant pass to pass and shim according to track conditions.....I had a set that used 2 springs stacked on top of each spring.....Like 2 kz springs in each spring hole....It worked.....Just gotta find something that works for YOUR setup......

well shane i made a jig 39mm tall. i put it on a scale and put a spring over it.
then take a wood propeller and push down till it just hits the bolt and then just back off the bolt aand look at the weight on the scale.
i was 3 stockers at 44lb and 3 cheap springs at about 4 lbs.( the scale said 4.5 but i am not that picky)
i always know how many lbs i have for spring pressure. but this is the first time running 6 shimable springs. .050 picks the cr500 springs up about 4 lbs and yes the .025 does work to 2 lb to my liking.
i am actually hoping for it to be just a bit tad looser at maple grove this saturday.i am shooting for 9000 rpms slip but in the end i will say i do not really care i just want it to do the same thing for two to three times. that same back to back run thing is really my goal.
it did 60ft in a 1.58 when it slipped higher but of couarse it was at 10500 or so and bent my licence plate again. (i am taking it off this week)
i do not get to dirt bike much any more but there is no reason to get rid of it. it will be hard to replace.it is a 1989 and wooded out for the trail.

so explane for me the diferences between the slider, single stage etc.

shane this is the jig i made to check spring pressure with. it works well. my stockers show 44lb and mtc rates the stockers at 44lb also. so game on.

i put the spring over the post.
then push down on the spring holding on the prop till
the center of the prop hits the top of the bolt at 39mm compression.
then i back up just till i feel i am off the bolt and that is my lb of static spring load for that spring. i can out shims on top of the spring and push down with say a .050 mtc shim and it
will go .050 farther than with out. and on these cr500 stockers it is about a 4lb gain. and it is nice a .025 is half that.
